I'm pretty new at modding cars, I have a 95 se that I'm getting rims put on this week, I think there will probably be some wheel gap and I want to lower the car.

All I've installed is a FSTB and clear corners so I dont think I can handle lowering the car myself, I'd be too afraid to mess it up...

Can I just order some springs and take them to a mechanic and tell them to put them on? Or is that impossible? Or is it just bad? If so why?

And If I buy new struts too, Is that ALL I need?

I was reading about these other parts and I dont know what I do need and what I don't.. IE: strut mounts? etc..

I still want a comfortable ride , from reading on here it seems KONI's and H&R springs are the best for that..or not?

thanks a lot!

As Bill would say, "Search"

Yes you can just buy springs and struts and take them to a shop and say "Fix it." I wouldnt shy away from doing it yourself. I did mine and saved $200. Plus, you get to know your car very well. Just do lots of research make sure you have all the right tools. Dont try to skip any steps or parts and you'll do just fine.

I dont know why people act like a spring compressor is some big scary tool. It's always the first thing mentioned and some people even say they would rather risk their life by not using one.

Not a big deal. You can "borrow" all the tools you need from AutoZone. You get the tools from them and give them a deposit, when you bring the tools back...they give you your money back. They have the two tools most people dont, spring compressors and a torque wrench.

i have a 95 gle, i went with h&r's and kyb struts.. the car still rides nice, definately stiffer, but not to the piont where i regret doin it.. looks much nicer and handles alot better (i also added a rsb-i HIGHLY recomend you do the same) i went with the kyb's cause ive had them on other cars, and ive never had a problem with them. i have toy's on my truck and went through 3 front sets. a friend of mine has them on his civic and has also had problems. personally, i think that the other more expensive struts are kind of "overkill" if you just wanna do an 1.5" drop. they may be better for a more drastic drop, but im more than happy i went with the kyb's. anyway.. i looked around and the cheapest i could find everything from was tirerack.com. i paid 510 for my springs and struts. as far as install.. i paid 200 for that

And about the torque wrench. I got my FSTB a few weeks ago and needed a torque wrench to install so I went to the local Harbor Freight retail store and they had them on sale for $12. I got one and it worked great. It is the same one that they sell for $20 on their site. That was one nice store.

Harbor Freight

I agree about them. Compile a list of tools you need, wish you had, etc, and price them out. YOu will save a bundle vs. local. Eg. spring compressor is $10, Flare Nut wrench set $8, 1/2" Torque wrench $20 (sometimes $12). Compare with Home Depot or Sears and you can easily save 50% or more. Shoot! should have gotten that large pipe cutter from them... I knew I forgot something. BTW, that's a $25 item at Home depot.

I have the same question as above

I am also about to buy the sprint 2" lowering springs and was wondering if I would need new shocks if I did that or not.
