when i press the brakes...a number of things happen

i've had some concerns about my brakes recently...
first of all, i have 16'' borbet type e.
here are the problems that i notice...i'm not sure if they're really problems, but i just want to make sure:
1) when i press the brakes gradually and come to a stop, it's not a smooth stop, no matter how hard i try...there's a little "lag" just the second before it stops. i'm not sure how else i can describe it.
2) one of my brakes, or more, squeeeeal! I've tried to spray brake cleaner on them, but no success. it is obvious that the brakes ONLY squeal when the car and tires are warm. at the beginning of each day, the brakes are fine, and very silent. but the longer i drive, the more apparent a scheech sound i can hear as i come to a stop. i'm sure it's not a serious problem, but i really want it to go away.
3) how come almost every other type of car i drive, the brakes feel better and more solid than mine? mine feel like they take my car GRADUALLY to a stop...while others actually FORCE the car to stop...i hope you can understand what i mean. (i've almost been in an accident with my weak feeling brakes, even if i do forget to be 100% attentative in front of me, i can't do it 100% of the time)
my car was just recently serviced, very fully and thoroughly (i hope). the two rear brake pads were even replaced...the front still have about 65% left to go.
can anyone give me some solutions? thanks

Yeah I notice that with my brakes as well. Comparing them to comparable brakes (4-wheel disc), the Maxima's feels a little weak in comparison. Not mushy though, I find the pedal response to be immediate, but not that strong. But they are adequate.
But stopping distances are definitely not as short as my family's 99 Camry XLE V6, or 91 Camry LE V6.

I have just upgraded by brake rotors with the new DBA Cross Drilled and Slotted Rotors and I tell you what, there is a tremendous difference.
First off the DBA rotors operate at a much lower temperature which allows you to use a higher coefficient of friction, less aggressive brake pad. This gives a lower, easier to modulate more consistent brake pedal effort. With the DBA rotors you get a feeling of immensely powerful stopping ability, which bolsters you confidence.
For the money, I think it’s pretty hard to beat Axxiss Metal Matrix pads, if you are a Solo competitor, or just drive hard. These pads last a long time, don’t kill rotors, and are reasonable in the cold (be careful at the first couple of morning stops!). These pads are about ½ the price of carbon pads. They are even good for light use race pads. Best off (for me!) they make very little dust, minimizing cleaning chores.
But I strongly suggest the DBA rotors, they look really cool and have just hit the US streets. Made in Sydney Australia and won many product awards as best product of the year, it;s worth looking into to.
Check out their web site at http://www.dba.com.au
If you want to knwo where to get them, let me know where you are.
