Overheating Problem, NEED HELP!!!

first my car was taking a long time to get to the normal temperature, and as i went over 40mph, the temperature would go down, so i got my thermostat changed. today as i kept my car started but in neutral, i found out that the radiator fans wouldnt RUN and the temperature needle was almost touching the H on the guage, so i had to manually run the fans by taking that switch off of that coolant temperature sensor.
SO DO GUYS THINK THE COOLANT TEMPERATURE SENSOR AND/OR THE TEMPERATURE SENDING UNIT IS BAD OR THERE IS SOMETHING ELSE THAT I M NOT AWARE OF?

I had a similar problem, if the fans kick on and off as normal then your temp switch for the guage is bad. It is located near the upper radiator hose. Buy one from Nissan, because I got one from Advance Auto and it was the wrong resistance (99 has different one then 95-98). It is only about $10. If the fans don ('t come on then get the switch for the computer. Chances are that is bad unless you have a blockage somewhere which is kind of unlikely. Good Luck JEFF

Fans are controlled by the ECU.
ECU reads the inner temp sensor. (closer to the engine block)
Temp sensor closest to the hose is for the gauge ONLY, it does not control the fans.

The Haynes shop manual has a table of resistance so you can verify that the sensor(s) are working correctly.

This might be off topic but does anybody out there (USA) know how to convert a left hand drive 4th gen to a right hand drive. Am planning to ship my car soon. And how does one post a thread in this site?
