Question about wheel fitment

i posted this in the tires and wheels section, but it doesnt get as much traffic as here. I searched but only came along threads for 4th gens. Im sorry if im not suppose to post this here, just looking for an answer.

Did a quick check but found the info for 4th gens.
checking out for a friend. 02 max like mine with h-techs like me also.

one rim being checked out is

Size: 2 Front Rims are 19X8.5 about 2" Lip.
Size: 2 Rear Rims are 19X9.5 about 3" Lip.
Bolt Pattern: 5X4.5 (114.3) and 5X4.75
Offset: +35mm

Is that fine, or will there be rubbing issues? also what would be recommended tire size. If too big what about:

Size: 2 Front Rims are 18X8.5 about 2" Lip
Size: 2 Rear Rims are 18X9.5 about 3" Lip
Bolt Pattern: 5X4.5 (114.3) and 5X4.75
Offset: +35mm

- 9.5" width with a 35mm offset will definitely rub, I would say.

- Go with the 18's

- Don't get a staggered setup, unless you like silly amounts of understeer and won't rotate your tires.

- 18x8.5 with a 40mm offset would fit best. None of the choices you pick are a very good fit, IMO.

quick question irish44j

Yeah i know this aint the right thead to ask but i have an I30 2001 relatively the same design as the maximas of those years. I just got some 18x7.5 rims but I also plan to drop the car with h-tech springs and tokico shocks. what tire size would you recommend with this spring/shock setup and with 18x7.5 rims? definitely wider the better but i dont want any chances of rubbing.

-Also, I had stock rims on my I30, i think they were either 6.5 or 7.0 wide rims off of a 16" rim. I plus sized the width of the tire when i got new ones. I think stock was suppose to be OEM 215/55/16 but the new tire that i got were 225/55/16. that extra 10mm of width created one huge difference in handling in the snow. the tire seemed to suck more and more everyday in the snow with the wider setup. so by increasing the width of the tire, will i get less snow traction or does it really depend on the tire that i got? (tires were yokohama avids)

with the 18x7.5, I would go with a 235/40/18 (same as I use on my 18x8's). They will fit nicely with no rubbing with an h-tech drop. What offset are you running with those wheels?

As to the snow tires - generally narrower tires with higher sidewalls are superior in the snow. In snow, you want the tire to "sink to the pavement," not float on the snow - wider tires put less weight/pressure per square inch, so they don't "sink" as far as a narrower tire.

That said, i run225/50/17 snow tires (Blizzak LM-22) and they are excellent. The tire choice can have a big effect on snow traction as well. My Falken 512's in that same size were not all that great in the snow.

Those should fit fine with a 245-width tire, and would be a better choice than staggered. Small possibility of minor rubbing, depending on the tire track width, but you could slightly roll the fenders if that happens (unlikely though)

thanks alot irish, youve been very helpful. What if i just go w/ 235/35/19's. that would give even less chance of rubbing. Dam, i just love th elook of the staggered, 2" and 3" lips. ah well, gotta settle for what i get.

flip...that should be fine 18x7.5 43mm...though a 35 or 38 offset would be preferable for a rim of that width, to bring the wheels more flush.

rykat - 235 is a bit narrow for an 8.5" wide rim, IIRC. Depends on the tire though. It will fit, but will look a bit odd, IMO.

If you want the staggered "look" just get some 10-15mm spacers for the rear.

I know they will FIT...I'm just saying that they are on the narrower side of "what will fit". I think 245/35/19 would be a more appropriate fit, personally....but 235/35/19 will work too...

oh ok i gotcha. cause i was wondering, cause i have 8.5" wide wheels right now w/ 225 tires on em. but 235 should be fine, as long as i dont go autocrossing and what not right. lol.

So I will start the stupid question.......

22 inch rims are strictly out of the question, unless crazy customization and $$$ are involved.......?

dont think it'll work on anything under 6th gen. Tek-Niq has 22's on his 6th gen, and they look nice.

Yah, I'd say 22's only on a 6th gen.

I would say 22's on an Escalade. They would look extremely gay on a maxima....

Tek-Niq's wheels look too large for his car, not to mention those things probably weigh close to 40lbs each. Hope you dont plan on beating anyone at the lights... or taking corners very quickly
