3.5 Motor Mount Question

I noticed that the motor mount that's shown in the picture looks a little strange to me, and I wanted to run it by the group. I wasn't able to get a very good picture of it, but basically the rubber part looks sort of squashed at the bottom. It looks a little like a tire that's low on air. It's not clearly visible in any picture that I snapped, but at least you can see the mount I'm referring to. I'd appreciate hearing back from anyone who knows if it's normal for this mount to look slightly squashed, or if the rubber part should be uniform and mine has gone bad. I have that annoying slight vibration at ~2000 RPM that I've not been able to track down.

Thanks everyone!

I'm not sure what its supposed to look like, but I'll see if I can snap a few pics of my side mounts later today or tomorrow.

My hunch is that it shouldn't look like a flat tire....

Thanks - I'd appreciate if you could look at yours. If you pull back the rubber ring that sort of covers the end of it you should be able to see fairly well how it looks. I just couldn't get that to show in pictures.

Anyone on the forum replace this mount? You should be able to tell me pretty easily how it is supposed to look.

Thanks to anyone who has input on this!

IIRC no one makes side mounts, only the front and rear

I haven't actually checked yet, but besides the fact that it looks off, is there anything else that leads you to believe that it may be bad? Is the liquid filling leaking? Does the motor move excessively on that side?

IIRC, these side mounts don't really go bad because they aren't under as much stress as the front and rear mounts, which is why not many people have had to replace these. At least, not yet.

I was under the impression that all 4 inserts were the same, but I'm probably wrong. Either way, he could just get OEM replacements from a dealership or Dave B since the benefits to replacing the side mounts are pretty much nonexistent anyways.

This car has about 55k miles on it if that helps. BTW, mine looks like a different part than your's for some reason. Maybe it's just the salt buildup on your's?

Busi87- its easy to install...the hard part is to find someone that has a large enough adaptor to press out the old mounts....you might have to go door to door hunting for a mechanic that will do these for u...unless you already know someone with a large enough adaptor to press out these old mounts

Well since I bought the car I get a vibration at about 2000 RPM that I mainly feel in the gas pedal, but can also hear as a change in the sound quality of the engine. Above or below 2000 RPM it's as smooth as can be. One dealer said it's the glue joint seperation issue with the hood that is detailed in a TSB http://maxima.theowensfamily.com/tsb/NTB02-005.pdf

The other dealer said it's my hood latch out of adjustment. Neither one was covered by my exteneded warranty and since I don't believe either diagnosis I refuse to pay to try them.

I was just poking around for anything that looked abnormal and thought that mount looked a little strange, but I have nothing to compare it to so it may be normal. There is no fluid leaking and the motor doesn't move around under throttle. I'm just trying to rule this out as a problem (It would be awesome if it was the problem and I could solve that vibration!).

That is the same part as mine - yours is just salt-free, and you have grey paint while I have black. Is the rubber part of your mount cracked? In the closeup, it looks cracked to me.

Thanks for posting the pics!

Nighthawk750, do you have a auto or a manual transmission. The auto transmission engines have electronic controlled mounts, and the engine mounts on my 2003 GLE auto looks exactly like yours. I am not sure if they are fluid filled though.

Mine is an auto, so if yours looks the same I suppose it's nothing for me to worry about...

Only the front mounts are electronically controlled on the ATs. The other 3 are all the same as the MTs.

Mine has a manual tranny, maybe it's a different part? Anyway I don't think mine is cracked as the car is smooth as silk. I used to have a 6-speed Acura Legend that had a pronounced vibration at exactly 2,200 rpm. I always thought it was just how the car was but now I wonder if it had a broken mount. Oh well, it's someone else's problem now.
