Removal of Stock Y-pipe

Hey, I started to remove my stock y-pipe and i got the side with the flex off, (close to the cat) but I cannot seem to get the side close to the front header and the top header off.

The front has the extra little tab of metal that extends past the metal bracket like the after market one.

Any suggests getting it off. Help needed immediately and greatly appreciated.

Soak everything with Liquid Wrench/PB Blaster for a couple hours. Some people even spray it down a couple times a day for a few days. Try again after doing that. An impact wrench would definitely help too.

there is a fitment extention in the front that is about 8mm long that sets into the downpipe/precat up front, i had this problem when replacing the precat, i just used a screwdriver to get inbetween the flanges and worked it apart. you could also detatch the precat (5 bolts on top, easy job) and drop the whole thing, that should work wonderfully. remember to put the bolts back into the flange that is sticking before removing the precat otherwise you will have two separate parts coming off.

There is no need to remove the exhaust manifold so don't do it. You'll just cause yourself some extra work.

Here are the steps as well as I can remember:

1. Remove all bolts from the y-pipe.
2. Starting at the front of the y-pipe, try to pull the front of the y-pipe from the front of the intake manifold. Use a large screwdriver of something of the sort.
3. The y-pipe should fall in your lap at this point.

If I can remember right, If you remove the y-pipe where it meets the cat first, you won't have enough working room to remove the front of the y-pipe and the angle won't be right, so start at the front.

If you are stuck and want to call someone for help, I can guide you through it. I am off today.

I'll pm you my number. I am going to the auto parts store and will be back in about 15 mninutes.

If you separate your y-pipe from the catalytic converter, it will give you extra room to slide and jiggle everything around till it falls off the flange.

Hey Larrio, saw you the other day at REI. Your ride looks really sweet and those wheels. What exactly are you running on the wheels and tires. I would love to tuck 9.5" under the rear.

By the way, are you sure on the y-pipe thingy for this guy? If I remember right, I couldn't take off the y-pipe when I started at the cat.

And last but not least, what's your sport. Since I saw you at REI, I just thought I would ask.

Hey, thanks! I was confused cause you have a sterling mist 5th gen in your avatar but I saw a SUPER clean black 5th gen at REI.... awesome setup btw.

Running 18x9 fronts, 18x9.5 rears. You can tuck 10's in the rear safely if you don't have a rsb.

Yes, i'm sure about the y-pipe thing. Its a pickle, but you need every bit of room possible. You'll want to make sure that the secondary arm is out of the bolts that hold it in and use something to pry the front piece off from the manifold

EDIT: I was at REI looking for a mountain bike, looking to get into the hobby. But I was originally there to get camping gear

The pic in the avatar is some jackas* that ripped me off on a set of 2k2 lights. Some of the donating members did a photoshop on him in the off topic section. I'm not gay like the avatar shows. Didn't you see that ball and chain attached to me the other day?

Here is a link to the thread where it all began.

And here is the photoshop thread. You may need to donate but it's worth the $20.00 or whatever you feel like giving.

SIREN, did you get the Y-pipe off yet. Let us know.
