I don't have the money right now to upgrade the whole muffler setup to get a nice sound on my 2002 Maxima. Has anyone used resonated exhaust tips on the OEM muffler? If so, what brand and is the sound quality good.

 

People have used Magnaflow 35131 with success.

 

I found the part number on the magnaflow website but it makes no mention of it being resonated.

 

Do they actually make any difference in sound? I would think not, but I dont have experience with resonated tips.

I think they are mostly for looks or MAYBE quieting down a loud AM exhaust a little bit.

 

Oops... missed the resonated part... those are single-walled, not sure if you can call em resonated.

They do have another part number that is resonated, but I don't have it off the top of my head. If you find something else that is resonated, just make the sure the inlet diameter is the same and the length of the tip is workable.

 

They will change the sound a little, but don't expect a dramatic effect. If you need to quieten an exhaust, enlarging the resonator in the b-pipe is probably the best approach, next to getting a new muffler.
