Quick HPS Install Question
Quick HPS Install Question
HPS guys...I noticed when I got the box of pads, that 2 of the pads had the loops/brackets at the end of the pad for the return clip on the brake hardware to fit through. Is this how yours were shipped, or did all 4 pads have these loops/brackets? If so, then which ones did you put on the outside, or does it matter?
I opted not to get the brake hardware kit, as there were shims on the back of my HPS...should be all good, right? Thanks.
edit: can i forgo the outer shims, or are they necessary?

I changed my pads last time, however the Raybestos pads that I used had the loops on all 4 pads, so that was a non-issue. As far as the shims go, I didn't put them on, and I don't think there was too big an issue, however never hurts to clarify.
Thanks for the confidence though....it's great to be told to have someone else go do something for me when I'm capable of doing it, but have a question about a new aspect of the process because i'm still a brake system rookie.

I think you are just looing at the wear indicators.
Just install the ones with indicators on the back side of either rotor as you can easily do a visual inspection of the pads on the front side of the rotor.
Oh, and if for the first couple hundred miles you get a pulsation or knocking sound under heavy braking, give it some time. A lot of people using HPS pads including myself have noticed this and it goes away.
Good luck with the install, Im sure you will like the pads.
Edit: These pads already have the shims so you dont have to worry about that. Just be sure to grease them up to keep things quiet.

Lontar, no problem.
NewLove, thanks for the input. Why they'd ship only 2 of the 4 pads with pad wear sensors is beyond me, but per your advice I'm going to put the pads w/ the wear sensors on the inside of the rotor. In my simple mind, I'd think that them not putting a pad wear sensor for the return lever to push against would cause the pad to drag across the rotor when the brake isn't applied (hence my questions), but i guess it works the way they did it.
Since the inner shim came on the pads, i'm going to forgo the shim cover. Does anybody use these? And what's their purpose besides being another piece to put on when you change pads?

I asked the same question when I switched to HPS pads and powerslot rotors.
I just wanted to make sure I got the correct pads. I ended up puting them on the inside and did not use the OE shims since there where shims fixed to the pads.
