Will a stock radio from a 97 maxima fit in a 96 maxima. I am thinking about getting a bose cd/tape player for my car and I currently just have a tape player. Do I need to get any mounting brackets or anything. Thanks for the help.

I am not sure but I think there is a good chance 97 stock radio will fit in 96. I saw some Nissan radio and tape player has one more button for the integrated clock setup, but I guess it will not change the overall configuration.

My 96 GXE only had a radio and tape player. A week ago I got a genuine Nissan 1 CD player (made by Panasonic) from Courtesy Nissan for $69 plus $10.99 shipping to CA. It is a straight plug in installation, everything is included. It works perfect to me. After I installed it I checked the online price and it became $99 plus shipping.

97 radios will fit earlier models except Bose

There's a guy selling a radio "not" bose but has a cd and tape in one. He's selling it I think for $70-80 (if you want his e-mail address let me know)and Supa Lao is also selling his. I know for sure that Bose will not work on a non-Bose car 'cause the speakers are amplified and the radio is passive and the harness is different.

will 95+ bose headunit work in a 3rd gen bose system if I just wanted to swap the head unit to get the CD player/tape player combo? (i.e. is it plug and play?)

Double din

I meant that any 4th gen Maxima can switch radios (95-99). The only exception is Bose, you cannot place a Bose into a non-Bose vehicle because the speakers are amplified. As far as a Bose from a 4th gen fitting a 3rd gen, it isn't possible because the plugs on the radios have changed(smaller).

Newmex, read this:

http://forums.maxima.org/showthread.php?threadid=45793

I have the BOSE CD/tape player that the '96 comes with and I think I hate it.

* CDs die in there in the heat - (read msg above)
* Only *6* FM presets? Thats not E-nuff!
* My old $100 Sony unit had a scan feature, you can scan all your presets - not in this Bose!
* Tone is no better than any other factory unit, no Bass, poor tone control
* The antenna control drives me nuts sometimes, up/down up/down....

Hope you like the Bose from the '97, maybe its better!

cool... that's what I was wondering, whether the harness would allow a direct plug in.

I guess if I decided to splice, I'd be ok, but other than that...

yup the 97 will fit in a 96 or vise versa, actually anything you can stick in a 4th gen you can fit in any 4th gen. i even think 5th gens too(not too sure, like 90%) But like nelzavala said, you need to have the bose speakers also. And to tell you the truth i have a 98 with bose and its the best staging i have ever heard in any stock system. even better than most of this kiddies running around with **** inside speakers and all these subs. even though right now my system is bone stock, it sound better then 98% (except peaches!) of my friends sytems, very clear and the imaging is great, not to mention the very tight bass. the bose system is awesome. you wont be dissatisfied.
