bolt on so tight...suggestion for substance to loosen it up

trying to unscrew the two bolts that hold the caliper mount on so I can get my rotor off and those things are on there solid. Any ideas of what I can use to loosen them up

In situations like that, a regular ratchet set wouldn't do the trick. Try something along the lines of a torque wrench, and I'd spray some anti-rust first and let it sink in for a few before trying again.

get some pb blaster and soak em up, then use a breaker bar and you shouldnt have too much of a problem. reg ratchet will never get them off

soak it, breaker bar, or wrench with a hammer

PB blaster, heat, box wrench and a hammer, or just beat near the bolts with a hammer to loosen the rust up, beating on the bolt itself (careful here), or a combination of all of the above plus plenty of cursing should do the trick. Next time you reassemble, dip the bolt in motor oil first, make sure to get some oil or grease into the bolt hole itself, then proceed as normal.

box wrench and a hammer for that one then. Make sure you use an extended hex one.

if wrench and hammer doesnt work, hammer a lil in the direction to tighten it. keep doing it back and forth and it might break free. and if you plan on using heat, try not to damage the brake lines.

I got to finish this tomorrow so I can get to the maxima meet and not miss it for the 3rd time in a row.

yup those 2 big *** bolts take off the torque member. mine were stuck like yours so i sprayed them with brake cleaner to clean them a little, then soaked them good with pb blaster let em sit for like 5 mins and the breaker bar broke them loose no problem.

i don't know if u'd want to dip them in any oil when reinstalling...i mean u don't want them to come out all that easily considering the minor safety role they play...maybe just a dab of anti-seize

Finally got them out. Put the new studs in and all that's that left is finding out how a piece of the brake shield isn't letting me get the rotor back on, but I can figure that out after work.

Thanks guys

You never mentioned what you tried to loosen it with. A little 12" 3/8" ratchet isn't going to produce much torque unless you are Hulk Hogan.

1/4" breaker bar and a 6 point socket. Cheater pipe if necessary.
