Stalling Problem w/ 2000 MAXIMA SE 5-SPEED

I have recently been having this stalling problem with my 2000 Maxima SE 5-Speed. What happens is that when I slow down after going pretty fast, the car stalls while in 2nd or 3rd gear as I brake. It starts back up without a problem. It doesn't do this all the time, but it's been doing it quite often now. Someone has told me the Mass Air Flow sensor is bad, someone has told me that the Idle Air Control valve is bad, but I am not sure what to do. Most of the time this happens when I am coming to a stop to make a turn. Any suggestions will help. Btw, there is no check engine light, which makes things more difficult.

MAF sensor

revv it up in neutral to like 5000rpm and then take your foot completely off the gas.

Do it a couple times, if it stalls, it's the MAF.

I just did what you said about 7-8 times. It did not stall. It jerked awkwardly the first 2-3 times, but then it revd all the way to 5000 rpm just fine, without stalling.

Interesting, could be the IACV, or even coils.

i had the same problem, id say MAF 90% chance is ur problem. maybe just clean the iacv and tb when you get a chance, but u may as well order a new MAF from Dave B. if u noticed ur car had been running wierd, other than the stalling......MAF!!!

Sounds like the MAF... just got mine replaced. You have similar symptoms as me.

So, should I try and clean the throttle body, or just go ahead and replace the MAF? Also, should I go with OEM or will an aftermarket part from lets say NAPA do the job? I don't know who DaveB is, sorry. Btw, thanks for responding, I really appreciate it.

Do NOT replace the MAF! Clean the throttle body very well and the problem WILL go away.

Sounds like the maf - I had the exact same problem. I cleaned the TB first just to be sure but it still did it.

Thats weird because when I had the exact same problem cleaning the TB did the trick.

There was a thread about this same subject sometime last year and almost everyone fixed the problem with cleaning the TB very well.

Mine would stall when I would get to a light, I've got a 5 spd, 2000 Maxima with 106,000. Changed the MAF and the plugs, was good to go!!

Thanks for all the suggestions. I think I'll clean the throttle body first and if the problem still persists, then I'll go ahead and replace the MAF sensor. Thanks again guys!
