I have to replace the blower resistor on my 95 GXE. Is this a Nissan part only, or should I even bother calling around to find an aftermarket part? Since this seems to be a common problem, perhaps an aftermarket part would be superior.

TIA,

-Jim

What exactly is this part and what does it do? Just curious.

It controls the speed of the blower (heat and AC) fan. When this part burns out, your low speeds 1-3 quit working, but the maximum speed 4 still works because the resistor is bypassed at that setting.

i apologize for bringing up an old thread but i figure its better than making a whole new thread about an issue that some other people are having. . ive been doing a little searching on the site and it seems like this thread describes the issue im having with my newly acquired maxima. blow controls 1-3 do not work. the 4th setting works fine. is this a dealer part only? how difficult is it to replace the resistor? i bought this car as a beater and so far im loving it. just wish the cruise control and tach would work but ill address those issues later after i fix my blower control issue. thanks for any help in advance.

Autozone has a lifetime warranty one for cheap, replacement is simple: 2 screws and a connector below the glove box... takes just a minute or 2 to replace. I had the same issue and was the easiest fix I've had to do to date.

I went later that day to the JY, pulled a bunch of relays. I go to the office and show the guy. he says, its free have a nice day!

Dont rip off your JY, its like ripping off your fam or something. Its jus wrong!
