This may seem like a random thread, and I guess it is.

But... I picked up a pair of PIAA Super Sporza windshield wipers a few months ago... the silicone ones. After I exhausted my windshield washer fluid, I got some of the Mr. Clean stuff and put it in. Ever since using it for the first time, my wipers don't work like they did before. Yeah, they still work well, but they smear the water some now, whereas before they would completely wipe it clean.

First off, does anyone know of any windshield washer fluid that's not harmful to these wipers, or just wipers in general, and is there something I can use to safely clean the wipers off, besides just a paper towel? I'm going to contact PIAA about this as well, but I figured I might as well ask on the org first.

i thought about makin a thread for this the other day. I don't have an answer to your question, just another one. What can we do to 'care for' our wipers? ie, to prolong life and performance? tia

 

Hmm, ive been using regular rainx deicer washer fluid for wintertime, its real good stuff but havent switched it out yet and i noticed my wipers have a film on them but still work ok, so

I just received some of this stuff so I haven't really given it a trial yet. I've had it on my "other" car for a couple of days (not the max with the PIAA wipers) and it does seem to have helped the performance of the wipers.

 

Hmm. The main concern for me is that the PIAAs are made of silicone. So, most products that are meant to clean wipers aren't really designed for the PIAAs. But if you have the silicones, give it a try and tell me what you think.

And actually, what seems to be happening now is that the blades are corroded somehow, not that they're brittle or "old."

I've heard good stuff about the 303 wiper treatment that you linked to. I would think it would be fine for the PIAA blades. I've been meaning to try it.

I have PIAA inserts and use some generic washer fluid with no problems.

 

because some washer fluid leaves an oily film on the windshield, so when you use the wiper it just don't clean well or just smear the water.
