I would like to get the 2003 if it looks good. I hope to be having a child soon and with a family a larger car won't be bad especially a fast family car!

I think she was asking about the 2002...

Hell yeah I would get a 2002. A GLE of course.

For me , the 2002 is nothing but a H.P. upgrade. For the expense you would generate, (upside-down-ness, depreciation, TT&L), you could get a supercharger that would way more than make the diff. I guess I'm trying to say that the 00-01 Maxima is such an incredibile car, I know am going to hang onto mine!

I agree. The one other thing that makes it more interesting is the 6 speed manual though. You may have a bunch of us interested in HID's, if the housing fits on the 2000-2001 models.

The 2002 Nissan lineup is pretty impessive though.

Sentra SE-R VSpec
New Altima with 3.5 VQ (Independent rear suspension!)
Maxima with 6 speed 3.5 VQ
Pathfinder 3.5 VQ
Infiniti I-35
Q45
QX4

Good point, Paul- every time I nail the throttle in my car & fight the steering wheel just to keep in my lane, I wish for an LSD! The 2002 Nissan line-up is truely awesome! At the same time , the 00/01 Maxima is such a landmark car, I think will own for a long time to come!

thats why i was wondering whos mad about it - theres no doubt that the 00/01 is a great car. But to buy a 2001 and be proud of it and fix it up then come to find out that the new ones have such a hp upgrade (to me) would make people so mad--im not a maxima owner (bf has one) im waiting for the altima

hey guys (and gals), how hard do you think it would be to swap in the 3.5 and 6spd?

The problem with the 02 Maxima (and the new Altima) is that it knocks the resale of my 00 to hell. Not only that, but it's still going to be tacky looking and apparently still have the stupid beam rear axle. Tough to consider trading up.

The updated styling has me curious. I like the current styling so it would have to be something dramatic to cause me to consider it.

That six speed manual transmission, however... woo! Now that's worth a look. Then again, the RPMs will probably run higher in the other five gears in order to make using 6th gear justifiable. So, I'd rather stick with my 5 speed.

The only other thing I'd be interested in is the navigation. But, I'll save it for my next car, even if it is the next gen Max.

hmm

heh, I'm still driving a 3rd gen so it doesn't make much difference to me, except that my car is soon to be worth close to nothing with all these new designs and features coming out..
I'm more interested in the new Altima or Sentra Spec V... I can see the 2k and 2k1 Max owners already biting their fingernails because if they would have waited just a little bit they would have an opportunity to purchase one of these new beasts...

Also, about a point someone else made about rather getting a supercharger for your Max instead of upgrading to another one..... just think about what would happen if u supercharger a 2k2 with a 6spd!

Something to think about . . .

I agree that the 2002 Maxima will be superior to the 2000-2001 Maxima in practically every respect. What the hell, the 2002 Altima SE will be superior to the 2000-2001 Maxima in many respects. So what does that mean?

I'd suggest it means that Nissan shot themselves in the foot. Considering that the 2001 Maxima will be a performance loser compared to either the 2002 Altima SE or the 2002 Maxima, people interested in purchasing a Maxima should be able to get KILLER DEALS on the 2001's in the very near future. I, for one, wouldn't be surprised to see brand new fully-loaded 2001 Maximas drop below the $20,000 price point after rebates and incentives. If I'm right, 2001 Maximas may very well become the buy of the century.

I bought my 2K-GLE in May of 2000(new)...great car, joy to drive...not gonna worry about the 2002 or 2003...heck...that's progress... doesn't detract from a great car...the 5th gen. Max....

Re: hmm

yeah, i was mad when i heard the 2k2 max was coming out, considering i just bought a 2k1 SE 6 months ago. but i think im ok with my purchase. its probably gonna take forever to get mods out for the 2k2... plus, since the 3.5 is going to be on the 2k2 for the first time, there is no telling how many glitches the car will have. im thinking they are using the 2k2 as a guinea pig to test out all the problems before putting it in the 2k3 model.

but regarding good deals for the 2k1 when the 2k2 arrives... yes, youll probably get a good deal for them, but ill guarantee you that you wont be able to find a 5 speed manual. when i purchased my car, i was looking for a 2k 5 speed SE, and every dealership in DC area told me it was impossible to get one. aiite, thats my take, but to those who buy the 2k2, enjoy the car... latas

"A good deal for them" may turn out to be the understatement of the century, Chillboy. And if you can get an auto cheap enough, Don's Valve Body upgrade will give you close to 5-speed performance.

Depends on how much money you've got. The 3.5L is a bored out 3.0L VQ with some changes.

y2kse... true true... but the point of getting a 5 speed is not only for speed, but to have fun. you drive a 5 speed, and you know there is no better feeling than downshifting to second or third, double clutching, etc. with an auto... hmmmm... i guess you can pimp... but thats it. latas

Personally, I think that once Nissan starts coming out with a new Maxima once a year people will start to get angry and stop buying, like the KIAs, Hyundais, and Daewoos used to come out with a new model every year, the 4th gen maxima was really unchanged for 5 years except for the little grill and rear trunk thingy, but the 5th gen maxima once it starts to change once a year is gonna suck. Plus, as much as I would like the 6 speed 240 pony engine I cant trande in my 5th gen cause i have a salvage title which aint work jack to nissan, oh well 5th gen, 5.5gen all the same to people in my high school, bozos cant tell the difference between alloys and those cheap-o hubbys with "wannabe" painted callipers and crossed drilled rotors lol
