You mean have the lights on the back plate blue? Maybe too much...plus you'll get pulled over real fast.

why would you want to light up your rear plate brighter?

hell i'll take off the lights if i wouldn't get pulled over for removing them. i keep the covers as dirty as can.

Just so you cant see my plate clearly.

Like a month ago I got some white LED's for my license plate and they were weak because it only had one LED in it. It was dim and it was mostly blue. That could of gotten me pulled over really quick.

What I did was order the 6 LED license lights and they are brighter than oem and the 1 LED's before and there is only a little hint of blue. I haven't gotten pulled over. I've been driving with them for like 2 weeks now. A lot of it was at night. Numerous cops passed me and didn't pull me over.

here is the website... superbrightleds.com

this is the product...

WLED 6-LED bulb
12 VDC 6-LED Wedge Base bulb (194/168 type)
Our brightest bulb of this type
Non Polarized
$ 2.79

what you see in the pic is not what you'll get.(on their website) It will look better and it will work better.

sry don't mean to jack this thread, i just have a simple yet stupid question...the screws that hold the plastic cover over those lights are rusted. I can't get them off with anything. Any ideas as how i can without damaging that plastic cover...Thanks.

A very preliminary version, I'll revisit it when I have the time to do it right.

I don't know LED mumbo jumbo but I think you're trying to say they are very bright.

My LED bulbs have 6 bright led's into one. The are as bright as yours or even brighter.

You mean these? I have about 8 of these sitting around, I'll put one in tonight and do a comparison shot. Do you not think I would have entertained such an endeavor as posted above were I not satisfied with the results obtained using a more cost/time effective alternative?

not those. Those have the light coming out the sides, which will make the light dimmer. Mine has 6 LED's that points the light in one direction.

Just so you know if you get pulled over for any reason you can get a ticket for that (at least in PA you can). I used to have an old plastic cover that weathered quite a bit (sun, salt, etc.) and turned yellow so that you could barely see the plate. One day I was in the parking lot and parked near a state trooper (no other spots were avail.) and he saw my plate and started to harass me about it. Although, I did not get a ticket but it was enough for me to take it off.

my goal wasn't to make the plate brighter. My goal was to use less electricity. Some honda guys changed all their bulbs to LED's and gained 2mpg. I converted all my brake lights and my license plate lights to LED, since they are on the most. So far my mpg is going up, not down. Of course i'm doing other stuff too so I can't confim but every little thing helps.

im in SERIOUS doubt u will gain 2mpg. that is a bit excessive in gain.. try more like .2mpg at best.

to be truly efficient. dont turn on the stereo, drive w/o any lights. dont use turn signals, etc...

the best things for mpg, is to have a clean air intake system IMO. and keep as light a car as possible.

about the lights being illegal, i think it matters on the cops (or maybe the type of car you're driving).
i have a friend with a white mutang with blue-ish plate lights and he gets hassled all the time. my other friend with a black lexus sc430 with blue-ish plate lights doesn't get bothered at all.

I have a bridge for sale in Iowa that will net you a profit of 20,000 dollars a year from the tolls. I'll sell it to you, and only you, for 100 bucks. Final offer.

How would you save gas by using less electricity?

I never said I was going to gain 2mpg. I don't drive a honda, I drive a nissan.
.2mpg is still better than nothing. All the little things add up.

Clean air filter and and keeping car lighter is right. But not when you have a CAI or WAI, those lower your mpg. Just because you have more power doesn't mean you'll save more gas. When I had a WAI the best I could do on the freeway was 31mpg. When I installed the stock intake system back it went into mid 30's

By ditching the weight of the battery?

by running devices that use lower power like LED's will allow you to carry a lightweight battery. I don't go crazy on LED's, I use regular led's so they can replace my light, not blind everybody.

doesn't your alternator produce enough electricity to run the lights? The battery is there primarily to run the starter, therefore you still need the same size battery. Or am I wrong?

PS . . . that bridge is still for sale.

You don't need that big battery if you don't run a lot of accesories. If you never use the radio and air conditioner then you can get a motorcycle battery.

your bridge jokes mean nothing to me. I still got the last laugh. I went from 24mpg mixed driving to 29mpg, and I'm still improving. With gas prices these days I'm laughing all the way to the bank.

So wait a minute, have you gotten a lighter battery? If not, how the hell do you save gas with LED's!??!?!?!?!

you know what, forget about it. I give up.

you guys ask the same question over and over. You just don't understand the concept. It's like putting resistors on a LED turn signals, you're going to waste the same watts as a regular bulb then why the hell get LED's in the first place???????

Eveyrthing that is electrical takes its power from the alternator, which takes its power from the engine, which takes its power from burning gas. So for every amp there is some extra gas that has to be burned to make up for it.

However, replacing as many bulbs as you can with LEDs might save say 7 amps, which at 14.4v, equates to .007 horsepower (743 watts in 1 HP, 7 amps *14.4v = ~100w). With a 190HP engine, thats a savings of a whopping .0000003684% (.007/190). Even if the alternator was only 50% efficient, you would still at .014 hp saved.

I guess what im trying to say is that your not really going to notice any difference.
