Egi Harness Wire Breakage

Has anyone ever delt with the EGI harness wire breakage? What are the symptoms of it? The TSB doesn't make it to clear. I have been told that this may be the heart of my problems, but my AC still works fine.

Here is the link to the TSB

Please give me your input on this problem...

"Several problems (no-start, no A/C, rough running, etc.) can be traced to broken wires in the engine compartment where the harness bends near the right strut tower." -- courtsey of consumerguide.com

UUUMMM Thanks for the reply, I know your trying to help, but I was looking for more of a better description. Like what CEL people may have traced this to. Or any other possible symptoms than what is listed.

If I smash the gas, then step on the brake quickly my rpms go down to like 200 rpms and jump back up. My idle is a little rough and I have a 0210 CEL which is being a pain in the but...

Someone said he had those problems and it turned out to be the harness.

harness

I have a 96 GLE and I had the same problem...when I stopped at a light the RPM would drop to 2-300 then jump back up. Unfortunately you have to find a really good electrician to find out which wires are broken or pay the dealer $600 to replace the harness.... I know this because my brother has a friend at the dealer and thats what he told me. I haven't gone to check mine out yet because it only happens maybe 2 or 3 times a year for me. Hope that helps a little.

Oh yeah, your ac as well as other things will still work...depending on what wire is broken. I've heard they break somewhere under the hood where they bend towards the firewall. Not 100% sure though.

Once in a while my car stalls out by stepping on the brakes. Maybe I should just check the wires out... EEEKKKKKKKKKKKKKK

Just remove the bracket that causes the problem and follow the tsb procedure to check for any breaks. I took the bracket off and didn't put it back on after, it really isn't needed. I didn't have problems but I could see how the bracket puts pressure on the wires. There are so many problems that could happen from this harness breaking. It is hard to say which wires might have problems w/o looking at the harness.
