Y-pipe to cataliac converter question.

So i'm installing my wsp y-pipe yesturyda and got all the 6 nuts off the header fine. When it was time to remove the catalic converter nuts i couldnt get it off, even with an impact gun. Warpspeed gave me bolts and nuts to replace the stock ones, but when looking at the stock catalic converter that bolts up to the y-pipe i noticed that there is no bolt and it looks like there are studs on each side. Is this how it is suppose to be?

They are rusted beyond removal. Either torch them off of cut them off. I think they are all nuts and bolts there, but its been awhile.

On my '95 the cat has studs in it, front and rear, and nuts are threaded on through the flanges on the silencer and the y-pipe. I stripped the royal hell out of one nut between the y-pipe and the cat about a week ago, and managed to shear off the two studs that connect it to the silencer.

Be careful with that exhaust ****, and make sure you use a lot of PB Blaster, Liquid Wrench, or better yet AeroKroil. Luckily I've got a muffler shop near my house that will extract the four studs and replace them with new hardware for only $20-25.

a lot of penetrating oil (I soaked w/wd-40 and waited 20min) and lotsa leverage (2 wrenches end-to-end, or breaker bar).

cut them off if you can. Then drill out where the stud is and just put the bolts through. It shouldn't be to hard if you have the right bits(titanium) and drilling oil. I would admit that a lift would be much appreciated though

I went to the muffler shop and had them torch it and remove it for $10. It was in fact a stud not a bolt. If i had to do it all over again i would just let some shop install it. Not worth the trouble to save the money. Now i'm all scraped up, dirty and sore from being under the car. thanks for the replies.
