caliper probllem

ive read up and im thinking the caliper seals or something are going

the front left caliper makes this squeeing crunchin noise when the brakes are pressed, it is loudest when not even rolling

i took the caliper off and put the brake lube on the pins and stuff. it sill does it

i think its something wrong with the pistions, sometime when im driving i notice the right wheel seems to brake harder and it pulls that way

when i took it off i noticed the brake pad wasent all being used like 2mm wasent touching the rotor so it was taller and not evening worn down, it seems the rotor is too big and dosent use 100% fo the pad

there is a 300zx caliper at advance for $70

idk if i could do a rebuild on my own

btw ive got 300zx 4 piston calipers

but i also have the stock calipers i might try them, i would need some stock rotors

i've noticed my front calipers make a horible screeching noise once they warm up, but then quiet down when i brake. i'm looking at replacing both units, i can get a reman set @ schucks for 55 per side with core, lifetime warranty. i ususally hate going to schucks b/c they are idiots, but a liftime warranty is what i need.

Is this correct? The noise happens when the wheels are STOPPED?

I have this crunching noise as well on my 300ZX calipers w 2k4 rotors on my 5th gen... just ran across this thread by accident

I've inspected the pads and the rotors without taking anything apart and everything seems to be wearing just fine. I suspect that the back of the pads and the shims are not greased up enough. When you apply the brakes, the caliper pistons push on the back of the shims and if there isn't enough lubrication, they creak and make all kinds of noise. My pads have about 30k miles on them now and are half way worn. I have slotted rotors, and want to change them out for blanks so I may just go ahead and switch everything out sooner...

By the way, I see nothing wrong in that pic that was posted. That looks like normal wear on the rotor...

Did you make sure to grease the back side of the pads plus the shims by removing the pads from the calipers? The pins are not enough... plus, do you have all the metal pad retainers in there? The ones that go on the corners of the pad might by sticking or could be missing...

The shims are the adhesive type, they should be stuck to the back of the pad.

I have a spare set of front calipers/rotors from my bbk conversion. They worked perfect when removed. Local sale would be best for how heavy they are.

yes Have you replaced yours yet? If not, this would be the cheapest way by far. I also have the rotors and brake lines(although the lines are probably as old as yours) But all were working fine when pulled.
