3.5 usable parts on my 3.0?

A friend of mine somehow managed to break the crankshaft in his 3.5 Altima. He offered the remnants to me for dirt cheap. I'm going to see in the morning how bad the damage is and get more specifics.
My question is what parts off of it can I use on my 3.0? Like can I use the heads or just the cams with spacers and drilled gears. I tried looking in the stickies but didnt see much info just a lot of "challenge pissing". If someone could point me in the right direction that would be great.

You can use the 3.5 cams as long as you get the intake cams drilled and use spacers.

*Ahem*

If the block, rods, pistons, oil pans, and main girdle are still in good shape can you ask your friend how much he would want for the blown motor?

I'm getting the motor for $40...yes thats right, $40. As far as I know the crank is the only thing wrong with it. My 3.0 is still good at 162k but I've gotten tired of the current output it produces.

I was hoping someone here could tell me what I can do with it. Obviously it would need a new crank. Any ideas how much that would cost?

Unless you're going to rebuild it and put it in your car there's nothing there you can use except for the cams. You can get a used crank for around 300 maybe from a junkyard but unless you're gonna rebuild the motor yourself you'd be better off buying a complete operational long block from a junkyard. Rebuilds can get pricey.

Yeah you would be better off selling that broken engine to someone and making a little $ on it

Dunk, pass, or him standing with another player?

Once your main team is out, you MUST cheer for number2.

If all goes to plan, 04-06vq will be comming from MIA to the YAK!

Either my auto right now, or a 6speed swap. I don't see why everyone says it's so hard. I need to talk to Tilley..

Good man!!! I'm gonna be attempting the 6-speed swap as well. Putting together a parts list and getting some insight from BlackBirdVQ. You're gonna be seeing some 5-speed parts in the F/S forum soon.

Oh, he has also done the swap? FAST makes it look like it has less parts than the 5speed swap.

My ninja edit didn't work

Dunno...no care. The OP isn't even gonna get the cams from it. I'll just look for a cheap blown motor on car-part.

Well I see Mathel is having problems with this swap on a 5th gen. But as always I wish you guys the best of luck on this project. And as I suggested in that thread, give Jeff at Maximum Tuning a call (516-676-8470) if you have any problems as he has done this on his 4th gen.

Yeah, the guy I was getting the motor from thought it'd be ok to set the motor on an old tire in the back of the truck. He said he didnt think it would go anywhere with how heavy it was. I' can only guess that he was flying around turns for that to happen. Oh well...
So where's the best place to find a set of 3.5 cams? ebay? Car-Parts?

The last time I talked to the guy he said it fell out, bounced twice that he saw and rolled off the road end over end. Oil pan broke off as well as intake plenums. Timing chain cover has a crack and valve covers beat to hell. Who knows what happened to the internals. I know the crank had snapped and that was the reason he pulled the motor from the car in the first place.

bad enough to not secure the motor, but why leave the tail gait down?
