Car Dieing???
Car Dieing???
So recently my car has been dieing ALOT. It's got to a point where its getting dangerous cause ill have no power steering when i go around turns when im parking etc. So let's saying im driving down the road at 1200 Rpms going 38 MPH. my car will feel like it wants to bog down. Then if i let go of the gas itll go straight to 0 RPMS within a second.
Then i would have to pop it back into netural start it up rev it then let the revs settle back down then put it back into drive. I think it might be an ignition problem possibly the coils. not totally sure. anybody experience this kinda of behavior???? If so how did you fix it or relieve the problem.

Or it could be your Engine Coolant Temp Sensor.. check your codes.. if this sensor is dying (returns wrong temp signal) your car thinks its running too hot or too cold so tries to shutdown.. you revving keeps it alive. Sensor is $25 odd
Not really sure about the codes. and i'm not totally sure about if my car works hard or for a long time it just seems to do it whenever it hell it wants to. Im going to autozone today to get the codes pulled. I know i can do this with the airbag light or what not but its easier for me to do that cuase autozone is right down the road. I was planning on replacing the fuel filter becuase im pretty sure it has not been done to my car yet and you're suppose to replace it periodically. I'll post as soon as i find out what's wrong.
My car used to die on start up. I’m not saying it’s exactly the same problem as yours but cause may be. Your car is 96 right, if so did you ever clean TB? Before you start looking at complicated causes for a particular problem why not start with something easy and almost free. Clean your TB and see if it gets any better if it doesn’t, at least your TB is clean and one possible cause is eliminated.

To add to my original post, make sure you don't spray too much tb/carburator cleaner all the way inside the OPEN tb plate. Spray while it's closed and to clean behind the plate saturate the towel you'll be cleaning with.
Alright my SES light is not on, which i take is a very good thing. But today i will be cleaning out my TB and chaning my spark plugs with the NGK something i forgot what they were called. Thanks for the tip with the throttle body cleaning. That would be kind of scary to have my car rev like crazy for a couple of seconds when i started it up. Alright i have a small project ahead of me hopefully these simple solutions fix the big *** problem
The problem with analyzing this type of problem is it could be so many things. It could be everything mentioned so far plus some other stuff....I'll add maf sensor to the rest of the list. Have you been playing with your air box lately?
Alright cleaned my throttle body and i took it out for an immediate drive and i could for sure tell a difference in low RPM torque. i havent driven it enough to tell if the engine has died yet i just drove it up and down the street. But hopefully this works cuase i dont feel like spending my grad money on keeping my 10 year old car running.
It was actually kind of disgusting what was on the towels after i clean my TB. the perfectly white towel looked as if i just cleaned a brake dust covered wheel.

Alright drove my car for an hour and half today....didnt even hesitate...i can tell the lower RPM torque, the shifts are alot smoother especially off the line. I never would have though that something so simple would affect your engine so much. And tomorrow im going to autozone to buy a K&N air cone filter and some teflen tape to make sure everything is sealed for good. Thanks guys for saving me a trip to the Infiniti dealership where i would most likley get screwed over.
hey guys, i know this thread is kinda old but i was searching around and i recently had the same problem. i just started it and went to make a u turn in the parking lot and it died, power steering and all. im going to clean the throttle body tomorrow after work and see if that helps. also my check engine light is on and it is throwing a vechicle speed sensor code, is that something i need to get fixed or can i drive with it like that for a long time. it also comes and goes, it isn't always on.
also occassionally it takes a few cranks to start the car and sometimes it will sputter down and die and i have to rev it to keep it running and it blows a lot of smoke from the tail pipe.
another thing, i put an ebay intake on my car a few months ago and it was fine for about 2 weeks then my car just wouldn't start one day, it would sputter and die and i couldn't get it started, i had it towed to the dealership and they raped me and said it was because of the intake. i took it off and put the old intake on and it seemed to be okay, but i want to know if you guys know why it did that and if i can fix it because i love that sound.
sorry for all the questions, i really need to get my car running right so any help would be great. i used to post at nico but they weren't much help.

FUjiwarclub, im just gonna throw somehting out there about your aftermarket intake, make sure it is all tightened and make sure that you have enough vacuum. By which i mena, nothing EXCEPT the filter is drawing in air. Check to make sure all seals are...sealed and all bolts are tightened and that your gaskets aren't cracked and leaking in air. This could be the problem with your aftermarket intake. As far as the vehicle speed sensor goes, im sure you could drive around with it, the only thing is that you might not know your speed at certain times because the speed sensor could be out for above fourty or whatever. I don't know exactly when the speeds will cut out, but i ran into a 1996 I30 with the same speed sensor issue and i was about to buy it, it won't hinder your performance. Once again, someone call me out if im wrong. Take it easy and good luck with your car.
