Hotshot headers and polyurethante motor mounts, step in.
Hotshot headers and polyurethante motor mounts, step in.
I'm installing my hotshot headers next week and I want to change my motor mounts at the same time. My concern is melting either the stock motor mounts or the ES polyurethane mounts that I want to install. Anyone with experience on this help me out here. I searched and didn't find anything.
No problems so far here. I did the mounts before the headers so can't comment on the stock mounts with headers.
I broke a stock mount the first time I went to the track and replaced them with the ES mounts.
I had a shop press the old mounts out and the new ones in. I don't know if it can be done with out a press. I guess we could try with a BFH.

It wont work with a BFH, it needs to be pressed in with a press- Ive just done this for a friend of mine using my old good motor mounts.
I have HS headers and Place Racing mounts, I've had the mounts on my car for over 2 years now with no problems, and my headers are bout year and half old.

You need a machine press to press the stock mounts out and the ES inserts in. Its really easy if you have a good press.
If not, you can do what Tilley and I did: torch/melt the rubber/liquid filled part of stock inserts out, but you still need to saw through the metal sleeve (taking great care not to cut the actual motor mount) that goes around the stock insert. Then use a spring compressor to press the ES inserts in.
More info here too:
