Motor Guys...step in. Misfire
Motor Guys...step in. Misfire
I have a '98 Max with a code for a misfire in the number 4 cylinder.
-I swaped the coil to cylinder 1 and the code still says cylinder 4
-I changed the spark plug...the one that came out was crusty white
-The injector reads 13 Ohms across the terminals
-The car has an obvious misfire, you can hear poping from the exhaust but it doesnt idle rough, except the poping.
I did a compression test on the cylinder and it read 120 but I didnt unplug the coils or take the fuel pump fuse out, so the car turned over when I did the test...i'm not sure if that changes anything.
HELP PLEASE!!!!!!!! My gas milage its crap!

Chances are you have oil leaving into your valve cover...Are the bottom of your coil packs brown? if so, go ahead and replace the valve cover, to save u from having to buy some coil packs again down the road. try taking the plug off of coil pack in cylinder 4 and see if the car bogs down or changes in idle/running manner.
Also, theres a slight possiblity that your fuel pump may be going bad, not getting enough fuel to the injectors possibly.Check the fuel pump pressure, your fuel pump may be failing. If a major tune up has not been done recently, this could be the cause of your problem.
