BBK Installed Pics (56K Make Dinner)
Last week I finished up my BBK and the rest of my brake setup. Ran into a few problems that had me a little frustrated, but worked around it.
My BBK setup consists of:
13" Cobra Rotors Slotted
1996 Infiniti Q45 Calipers
Q45 Torque Arm
Jeff's Brackets/Rings
Hawk HPS Pads
SS Lines
Motul RBF600 Brake Fluid
Rear setup:
Brembo Replacements Slotted
SS Lines
Hawk HPS Pads
I didn't take any pictures during the install, but I followed Karim's write up which was very easy to follow.

When installing my rotors rubbed against the torque arm, but once the wheel was mounted and everything tightended down it centered itself back out. My wheels are 17x7 Motegi DP6 with 20MM spacers. I recommend finding a better wheel. I had to grind some of the caliper away to clear the inner barrell of the wheel. Once that was completed everything worked out!
After bedding the pads in this setup stops in a real hurry. I installed brembo replacements and Axxis MM pads on my automatic and that setup can not even come close to the setup I have on my 5spd.
Anybody looking to upgrade their brakes definetly should consider a BBK. I don't have ABS (which I learned when bedding the pads in) and I feel a lot safer with the BBK being on their knowing I don't have ABS.
Alright enough rambling on. Time for the pictures. Some pictures I tried to show how little clearance I have betweent he caliper and the inner part of the wheel, but the lighting sucked.
Don't mind the ricey-ness of the car. One day it will be painted. Probably sometime after school.

got a chuckle out of that. Make sure you didn't transfer any material onto the rotor if they were already hot and you locked them.Anyway, the car looks good, wish I had some 17s so I could fit a BBK under there... and the flat black/shiny red looks interesting actually. For a minute I thought you had done it intentionally.
I'm thinking of doing the all-Q45 swap. I applaud you for going slotted instead of blank (actually my personal favorite) or cross-drilled. It looks really good. But your pads will still wear out in a hurry.
Anyway, thumbs-up

They look clean as could be actually. I only locked real quick, as soon as I heard it I immediately lifted off the brakes.
Like I said the braking force is tremendous. I was going to rebleed the brakes because the pedal didn't feel right at all. I did the bedin process twice, and it firmed up some.
Now it feels great not sure if it is because I have gotten used to it or because I have been driving for a week with them now and they have broken in more.
Once again I highly recommend. Zack I think you should keep them!

No big deal to me though. It's a ebay bumper and I'm not happy with the fitment. I'll be searching junkyards for a 97 OEM bumper sometime.
looks awesome dude.
so why did you use q45 calipers instead of z32 again?
and what color are you getting the rest of the car painted? just to match the ruby pearl or are you getting a full repaint.

Q45 Calipers - $70 shipped. Bought them used. Went to Autozone bought rebuilt ones $190 - $80 (core).
Jeff's Brackets/Rings - $55 shipped. Bought used.
Hawk HPS Q45 Pads - $67 + shipping. Tirerack
SS Lines - $85 shipped. AutoMax Group Deal
Motul Brake Fluid 1 Bottle - $27
Ebay.Rear Rotors - $85 shipped. Automax Group Deal. I think it was this price because I remember it being slightly lower than what he had listed in the thread itself.
Hawk HPS Maxima Rear Pads - $64 + shipping. Tirerack.
Total - $624. Not to shabby I think.
That should do it on the prices. Once again thanks for the compliments everybody.

And I have read some people believe the Q45s work better with the master cylinder. I have no idea if its true and I didn't really base my purchase off of that. It really came down to the price.
Either way I knew I was getting a kick a$$ setup

As for the paint. I plan to get the entire car repainted Ruby Pearl. I really like the color. My automatic was ruby pearl as well. The paint was in great condition on that car. And when Zaino that car shined, and the pearl in it really came out.
Well I haven't driven my car for about a month, due to clutch master cylinder issues.
But, after install and the little I have driven with it, I love it. The pedal feel is phenomenal and like I stated before the stopping power is insane.
Guys on a local car board give me crap about wasting my $$$ on such a setup, but I think they have to experience the stock Maxima setup to really have a say.

I never ended up buying other wheels. I decided to just keep them. Just barely do they clear.
And happy this is the only picture I have of the spacers.

H&R spacers are top of the line. I believe 10MM+ H&R supplies the longer studs. Install is easy and I have had no problems out of them. Gave me that aggressive stance and let me clear the calipers. I bought my spacers from www.optauto.com
I used this how-to for the spacers: http://home.insightbb.com/%7Edavidwh...cer/spacer.htm

Man, Drew that's an awesome setup, especially for the price. I may have to do this mod because you made it look so easy. You should do a write up and refer to links and try to make this a sticky if there isn't one already, most of the bbk setups I heard about were like 1k or more. Looks awesome, now you have one more reason to boost!!

It really wasn't hard at all just time consuming like with anything on a car.
The BBKs that are $1K or more are the big names like Wilwood, Baer, Brembo, etc.
But like Jeff will tell ya this does the samething for a lot less money. I can't complain at all. Like I stated earlier I get ragged on from the locals, but like I said I don't think they fully understand how terrible the stock setup is.
Eventually this setup will be used in AutoX, dip my toe into the area.
