$30 Retrofit project for a friend

My friend tooked my advice and bought halogen projectors off ebay. Yesterday I showed him step by step how to do it and here are the results. Note that these are 95/96 headlights.

OLS HL:

RETROFIT:

Light output is greatly improved and with the 95 headlamps you can not even see the projectors. Next up is Dual Projectors in my 99 HLs.

Since the headlights are soo blurry, shrouds are not even needed and even if you did a ****ty cutting job it would still look and perform well. Just search up PROJECTOR on ebay. They go for 20-40 shipped and the one we bought came with the wiring harness. This one is from some Mercedez.

Used halogen projectors really aren't that expensive if you search around, especially eBay. I guess they aren't worth much to people who have cars with them stock

b00b, I'm curious, you're doing a dual retrofit...which projectors are you putting in?

The frontal shot seems to show a lot of stray light above horizontal. Can you park your car 20ft from a wall and snap another shot and also measure to see how many degrees below horizontal? Thanks.

im interested in this.
i dont know much about lighting but what is the main difference between halogen and HID projectors?
any write up on this?
it seems like this would work pretty good on a 97+ clear lense headlight and then i could paint my housing black, right?
for 40 bucks i'd definently want to do dual, one for brights and one for regular.

The main difference between HID and halogen is the bulb used. However, it's not that simple. If you do a google search, you can see a comparison of the two technologies. Bottom line, HID is about 3x brighter, but you'll need specific housings for it. In terms of projectors, halogen and HID projectors are not the same. The differences lie mostly in how the lenses, shields, and reflector bowls are positioned to take advantage of the design of the HID capsules.

A halogen projector retrofit is a good, cheap idea to improve your lighting. I'm glad you're taking into consideration the highs and lows, as well. That's important. If you're going to do both high and low, though, don't expect to get away with $40. Under $100 for sure, but likely not $40.
