95 Maxima odometer/speedo on the way help!

just ordered a new speedo /odometer for my 95 max and as I have removed the cluster numerous times to check for cold solder joints on the cluster i can get to the speedo very easily.
I just read the threadhttp://forums.maxima.org/showpost.ph...46&postcount=2
on how to remove and install the gauge needle but does this rule apply when changing out the whole gauge?>I mean I am sure it comes without the needle preinstalled. so how would i be sure its calibrated? when i put the old needle on the new guage?

The speedometer and odometer get their signals from the same source. They should both work. My odometer quit working a long time ago but the speedo is still good.

How about selling your old gauge here because those who want to recycle parts of a speed gauge might still want to buy your speedo with non-functioning odo.

The install is very easy but as long as you've got everything out, I'd go ahead and replace all the cluster's bulbs. It would suk to have a bulb go out soon after you've replaced the whole thing.

I hear ya on the practice. I've had mine out several times too. Since you're experienced I wouldn't worry about it - you know, bulbs only blow out after they've been replaced ha!

speedo

this is very simple to do. when i drdered my speedo head from courtesy nissan they calibrated it for me . i just gave them my current mileage. I received my ready to install , just remove the cluster and behind the speedo rremove the four screws holding it in . Remove the old speedo and intsall the new one . put it all back together and your done. Thats how simple it was for me. i hope this helps.

Well, not quite that simple. You have to take out 3 or 4 trim pieces first. They're only held in by a few screws, but there are a couple of moments where you have to hold your breath and pull to get the clips out. And it took me a while to figure out there were 2 more screws holding the 2 piece steering column collar in place. I think the manual said there were only 4, and I believed them. But once you've done it, it really should be about a 10 minute job.
