terrible missfiring

i have a 99 es(canadian special edition, simlier as se), the car missfiring crazy, it shuts off at ideling most times, the poping sound comes from the engine when it is missfiring at ideling. i have changed all the fuel injectors, all the spark plugs, also i checked the compresion, two cyclinders are around 120psi, all the others are aroung 150-160psi. also i changed the maf, but the car still missfiring like before. the only engine code 0701, anyone has idea what is wrong with my car?
thx

sounds like the coils went bad. I'm having a problem with my coils aswell from the looks of it but not to your extent. it is most likely the coils.

0701 = Multiple Cylinder Misfire

There are sparks . . . and sparks. It's quite possible to get a weak spark from a malfuntioning coil that will not fire the mixture properly. Remember that the mixture is under about 10 atmospheres when compressed, it takes more voltage to cross the gap under that pressure. I had this happen with my Sentra. I was getting a spark but it was too weak, the engine would fire but it was like badda-badda-badda-bung, would hardly keep running and when I'd give it some gas it would just stall. Faulty distributor in that case, but no distributor on the Max of course.
It's NO USE checking coils with an ordinary ohm-meter. The only thing that's any use is an insulation tester. And really, the only proper way of seeing if the coils are good, is to connect the ignition circuit to a scope - a computer diagnostic machine that most garages should have - and look at the HT waveform. All the spikes should have about the same voltage peak, 22KV or similar as far as I recall. If not . . .

how much is too much money? Could be a lot worse...
and if you test between every lead with a multimeter you might be able to find which coil is bad. I have seen someone on here before who made a little table with the resistance values for each lead on each coil and he was able to pick out the bad one. it's worth a shot

get used one's from a 97-98 when they had the Mitsu one's. In 99 they changed to hansin which is pure garbage.

If you've got a 99 Max and you haven't already replaced your coils yet, then I'd be willing to bet that they are in need of replacement. Don't buy them at the dealership though, that price is absurd. I was in the same circumstance a few months ago and I bought a full set of 6 OEM coils on eBAY from a seller in the US. I paid around $300 for the full set and shipping was cheap too. Problem fixed and the car runs like a champ again.

I had a similar problem in my '99 and after spending a lot of $$ on coils and many other things, it turned out to be a broken wire in the harness. ($2.00 for some solder and electrical tape...) There is a TSB on this issue in one of the stickys, so it must be fairly common. Check it out before you drop any more cash...Salz
