everyone here keeps getting bolt-ons and other types of mods to gain power... but whatever happened to rebuilding a motor? i was speaking to a friend of mine over the weekend and he told me it costs around $5000 and u gain a lot of power... they do a lot of stuff in there and then u can add bolt-ons on top of that... what goes into it and why doesnt anyone do it? also does anyone know of a place in nyc area that can do it? and does anyone have any type of info about it cause im totally clueless about it...
thanks

Many many things involved and it's not an easy process trying to find Maxima internals. Trust me, you don't want to do it unless you know what you're doing.

Rebuilding the motor involves strengthening/lighting/etc. parts. Rebuilding it with OEM parts will make no difference in performance.

Just got off the phone with Nissan...

And I ask them is it possible to purchase or do an engine upgrade to a 2000 Maxima with the new VQ and he said "somewhere down the line that would more than likely be possible due to accidents, etc., however he said he would not recomend it. He also said it would be expensive about 5k or 6k and all powertrain warranties would be voided.

So I guess in a year or 2 I will blow up my engine and purchase the new VQ!

hummm depends on how extensive you want to build your motor. a Rebuild is different from someone building their motor. Not everything needs to be replaced in a rebuild but if your building a motor everything that is a potential weak point i would recommend to replace with stronger parts.

well i dont know really how it works but basically lets say i just want to gain more hp and torque by changing the internals in the engine without any force induction "yet"
is it possible to get over 300 hp out of my VQ engine by just rebuilding/replacing? what is the maximum amount of hp that can be gotten from that engine? and how much would it cost? and how much time would it take

If you're doing a rebuild to gain hp and make it go, then, yes, it will be expensive. If you want to "rebuild" after blowing it, say, then it will be cheaper with OEM/factory (eg not heavy duty) parts. Look on the bright side, it won't be as expensive as a Formula I or Cup motor.

Increase compression ~~> NA
Decrease compression ~~> Force fed

Choose one. You can up the compression and get more hp, if your force feed your car later on...... *BOOM* (assuming that you increased it quite a bit).

oh so there is no inbetween?

ok so what is the potential of each?

what is the best i can do with NA and what is the best i can do Supercharged...

and is there an end? or the best? or can both be constantly made better?

I haven't done it nor have I done research on it. Let's wait for the Toy Boy to answer your question.
