Gotta get new tires. Have checked out "Tire Rack", but would like some feedback from Maxima drivers on the best buy for my money (which is not alot!)as well as the best places to shop. Remember we are talking about a completely stock car, so nothing high performance needed..?right?

 

These days, you can get a great performing tire for not much more than a average one. I have and am very pleased with the Dunlop SP8000's. In 225/50ZR-16, they are about $85 each. TTL, they cost me right at $500. For a little less money, I have heard the Kuhmos (714's, IIRC) actually handle better than the Dunlop's.

 

I just bought 225/55/16 Yokahama AVS DB's. They are around $100/piece. They are ultra high performance all seasons with a very aggressive tread design with water channels. So far, my impressions are good. But of course I am comparing them to stock Eagle RSA's. Anyhow, no squeal to them. They are quiet but harsher on road seams and bumps. That may have to do with the increase in width. Thumbs up.

 

Michelin Pilots, IMHO the best tire for the moneey.

I suggest you check out Bridgestone Potenza RE950.

 

I will have 4 Bridestone RE950 225/55/16's for sale in about two weeks if you are interested. I just bought new rims and have to sell these tires as well as my stock 99' SE rims. The tires only have about 350 miles on them. I paid $430 and will probably try to get about $375 including shipping. They are cheaper now. I think about $96 a tire on Tirerack. Let me know if you are interested.

 

i got dunlop sp sport 8000 for $107 (the 225/55-16, not the 225/50-16) on the rear axle. they are nice and quiet, and have good performance. i'm just about to smooth out my factory rs-a in the front, so i'm getting some more 8000s.

only negative thing i've heard about is that they don't last very long -- i guess because of the soft compound.

I got these a few months ago and they are faboo. The sidewalls are pretty thick, stick out over the rims a hair and are stiff (for 50's). These tires grip phenomenally, and have a high treadwear rating for Z rated tires. Plus they are damn smooth, quiet, and predictable...

 

Dont forget Nitto. Nittos are very good handling tire, but they are pretty loud (Well, at least the ones I have are ). Check out some of the others, such as the NT-450, etc. They all have their benefits.

 

For a non performance tire i highly recommend yokohama avid touring. I paid $226 for all 4 shipped from tirerack. The size was 225/60/16. If you get smaller size it will be even less.
