Car loses Voltage
Car loses Voltage
ok guys, the other day, i was driving around and whenever i steped on my brake pedal, all my lights would dim, my rpm would drop nearly stalling and then pick itself back up....
Can anyone help me out?
it only happens when i step on the brakes.
if i turn off the car for a couple of secs, if im lucky, it goes away, but it comes back later on the day.

my car was doing that a while ago.
It turned out to be a loose alternator connector (i must have moved it when i was cleaning my engine). But motorhead's suggestion is very good. Check all your cables from the battery and ground
good luck

Immediatly check the the easiest thing first. The "ALT. S" fuse located under the hood in the thing rectangular shaped box next to the battery. This controls the alternators signal.
Then check the alternator's connector, clean with a strong brush wire and spray some carb. cleaner in it. Make sure it "clicks" back into place. While inspecting that harness make sure all the wires on it are in GOOD condition.
If all else fails put a voltmeter on the battery with the car running, put a load on the car, the voltage should stay consistent between 13.xx and 14.xx preferrably between mid to high 13s close to 14s. If the voltage is not within that range your alternator is failing, the regulator, or diode in it is probably out.
Do yourself a favor. PURCHASE ONLY A BRAND NEW OEM ALTERNATOR AT ALL COSTS.
