Hey the other night I was arguing w/ my friend about what a Max could do. He was trying to tell me what a Max could & couldn't beat. So anyways he started talking about this WRX & that it had 227Hp & that it would woop a 2001 5sp Max. I was defending the Max, of course saying there was no way the WRX would beat the Max. He was sayin "well it has more horsepower" & I told him that doesn't mean a damn thing......you have to look at the weight as well as torque. So, I am posting to get everyone's opinion on which would win. Hopefully I will come out the winner of this arguement....help me out here.

 

The WRX would kill the Maxima. I think it would have no problem beating the 2002 Maxima/Altima (all stock of course). The WRX is AWD and I believe it does 0-60 in 5.8

 

5spd max vs WRX automatic maybe... 5spd vs 5spd, the maxima will get walked

 

Doesn't the WRX only come as a manual?

People who owns 330i, Maxima and even TL-S thinks that they could beat the WRX as they said! That was so wrong! I remembered reading car tests magazines (I forgot if it was import tuning or SCC or super street or whatever) that the WRX did 0-60 in 5.7seconds dumping the clutch at 5000rpm with very little wheel spin! This is as fast as the RX-7 stock.

I once heard a guy saying that he beat the WRX with his TL-S, and this was so gay because WRX could easily kill the TL-S just in 0-60 and 1/4. Now, I think its just gay to see someone saying that the Max could beat the WRX.....

This thing would have no problem killing the Maxima or any other 4dr car in the 35k or less range unless it was heavily modded. my friend is getting one in a week but he won't let me drive it . Just wait until the WRX STi comes out later next year.....

I thought Mitsu wasn't going to bring over the Evo 7 because they said it wouldn't be profitable. IMO I think they will see how the WRX and the STi sell and then they will bring over the Evo a year from now...

i dunno, i don't think even a 5th gen max with JUST a super/turbo won't hit 5.6 in 0-60...maybe it might beat it in the 1/4...

Sorry... it'll not only win, but this is a case where the word "spank" would come into play. This is espeically true in a street light to light race where if the owner of the wrx knows anything(which I bet they would) would eat up most FWD and RWD cars.

Best thing about driving a WRX would be that, from the inside, you can't see how ugly it is...

 

Man, whooped by a four banger. it would leave emotional scars. I've only seen a blue one with the wing on the highway. it would be nice to see Nissan go S/C with the max, like the pickup (frontier?).

From a roll or off the line? From the line, you will be spanked if he can launch it. Launching a WRX is very easy. Rev to 5000 to 6000 rpms and dump the clutch. From a roll, it will be a good race.

 

same thing can be said with the maxima, you can't see your SUV supension inside and ugly grille/taillight(5th generation) inside

 

OOOOWWWWWWW! that hurts.

 

DSM GSX can handle the Subaboos, all wheel drive turbo. Remember, Subaboos designed their turbos similar to DSM because there are so many available turbo upgrades for their turbos, did somebody say 18g? My cousin had a GST and he kicked our buddies 1990 ZTT, offcourse his was modded to, and although his was not all-wheel drive, it was lighter than the GSX.

The new Sentra SE-R Vspec with a turbocharger would be a more comparable match to Subaboos.

that's with auto 97 max. I raced one to see how it was, my friend has one. Don't race him, he will embarrass you.

 

Unless you have a supercharger or NOS, you won't stand a chance. I know that for an auto, I would have to have one of the above mentioned mods to beat a WRX. A stock one that is.

 

Well my 2K1 5pd has an intake, rsb, fstb, sts, and soon to be Y-pipe. When my Y-pipe is on I won't be afraid of them unless they are modded. Stand still would rock me but after that would not be afraid to run with one up to 140mph

PS as soon as the y-pipe gets installed i will be running the modded 1999 gti vr6 again. I beat him many times and haven't lost to him yet but will see how much difference the pipe will make?

 

You guys kill me with this auto vs manual tranny talk. BOTH will lose to a WRX. I don't care if you short shift, long shift or get out of the car and run behind it. The WRX has AWD which could prabably kill a Trans Am off of the line. Let's face it, that WRX just makes our cars(with out SCing) plain slow.

Maybe yours is ugly?? I get compliments on my ride everyday...especially by the ladies (which is all that matters).

 

What is the year and specs of your car? Be honest now? Have you ever driven a 2k+ 5spd with intake, y-pipe and sts? I seriously doubt you have??? I agree the WRX will beat a Max off the line...I damn well hope so..but trust me a stock WRX ain't pulling on me at any speed once we are moving.

It is in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada (Canada's Capital). I've been practicing my 3500-4000rpm launch and starting to get good at it....damn you can get moving fast with that launch! I still have to find one girl that finds my car ugly as well?

 

Phatguy, I am not a kid who needs to lie about what I have(just wanted to get out of the way). I own a 97 GXE (the lightest of the bunch) and it is stock except for the brakes and strut bar. I didn't buy my car to be a racer either. You also don't have to doubt the cars I have driven and the lot of them are faster than the 2000 Max with your upgrades.
The only way anyone can prove to me they can beat a WRX is to just do it. I don't want to hear no talk about I know I can beat one. When you beat one let me know.

 

Oh yeah, Sprint and Medicsonic has seen my ride in action and they can tell you that in our run back from the NJ meet, my car didn't seen slow at all(mostly technique).

Duh not hard to drive faster cars than the Max that is not the issue here...bottomline is I really don't care how fast WRX are since most people are not going to launch at 5000rpm and most don't have the ***** to drive it at 140+. Can you car even hang with a WRX or go 140+? Just curious? Without baby bottles?
