A friend of mines bought me some spare keys. When I went to open the door, no problem. When I went to start the car ahh, cool, then D'oh. It died. Do you know the going rate to get keys cut?

The dealer is the only source for the Nissan Vehicle Immobilizer System "chipped" keys. Copies of conventional keys can be made by any store with a key cutter machine. I got some made at K-mart for fifty cents apiece.

If you have the programmed key, cutting a spare is about 1.50.

$75

Wow, really, so that's the going rate?. I need to get my hands on that Chip key. I'm going to have to try my other sources. I'll let you know.

Re: Hold up, did you say.....

This is not very safe.. but its cheap..

if you want to keep using the cut keys.. then mount one of the chipped keys in your steering colum(sp)

defeats the purpose for saftey.. but it works

I tried to do this and was unsuccessful. Please give more details on how you did it.

The chip must be mounted near the immobilizer coil which is mounted to the key cyl. Although, I don't recommend this as it renders the immbolizer system useless. By the way, it must be a programmed chip. And you could have trouble when trying to start the car with a "chipped" key. You would have to use normal cut keys.
