Anyone have a TQ Converter on a N/A Maxima?
I need to make this thing faster. I find it to be very very quick from a roll, but the lag from a stop till you hit 3.2K on the RPM is what has the autos always playing catchup, even to much slower cars, and killing my times. I was wondering if anyone has before and after with only bolt ons, ans it would be hard to tell how just the Converter helped if you also have a SC or NOS.
I may trade/sell the car in November for something else though? Happy with looks and handling, but NOT power/speed.

Hope they read this and post their comments on that mod. Thanks Kev, not dissing anyone, people just getting rowdy in that thread. Think I might get one next month, now that I found a tranny shop that did good work on my GM 700R4 trannny.
This might be OT but.....
TexMaximum, is the 700R4 a "troublesome" transmission?
last year when I was considering buying a Caprice 9C1(for a summer project), I read about the 700R4 and a couple of people were telling me that thats one of the first things you should work on when "building up" a GM/Chevy with that trans?? I think it was something about the OD kicking down or something...any feedback?? thanks

Oh no, it is a very good tranny that can take what you dish out. This one had 150,000+ miles on it, no problems, just leaked a little and shifted a little soft and late, but hey at 150k, and still drove around without problems!! Had another car with about 110K of real abuse with this tranny, no problems. So it was time for a perfromance rebuild, complete with shift kit and 2800 TQ
What you are talking about is a $50 or so mod by B&M. Its keeps the tranny from downshifting at 1/4 throttle at HW cruise speeds, thus gives you greater MPG. People prolly told you to work on it, because there are so many things on these cars in tranny alone to help your perfromance even further. Also, if you mod more then just a few engine bolt-ons, its good to beef up the tranny for these high TQ motors.
I think on Imports, I'm going to stay with manuals after this car. Most cars from Japan with automagics loose A LOT of performance compared to the stick shift, however with american muscle cars its not the case. An auto Camaro Z28 for example, Vrs a 6 speed Camaro Z28 is maybe a 2 tenths diff, however, you'd have to be a GREAT driver to get that or even beat the auto, who would just floor it and hold on. I was shocked to learn the 1 second and greater time diff. on these and other import auto cars I've driven. Something I just was not used to back in the day. Likely has do to the fact here, Auto is standard, overseas its a rare and costly option
