Auto Transmission fluid flush on a 93 GXE.

My 93 GXE is currently at 150k miles. I must admit that I have neglected the tranny for quite some time. Last time I had a ATF change was I think at 80K miles at the dealership about 5 years back. But still, I have not had any problems with the tranny as yet.

I am currently doing a Auto-RX treatment for the motor oil. My question is, is it a good idea to do a Auto-RX treatment on the tranny also now and do a fluid flush? I am getting conflicting information in previous threads. Many have suggested against a flush, while others have said it is OK as long as you don't have any tranny problems currently. What should I do? If not a fluid flush, what are the recommendations?

Thanks in advance for any tips.

Myself, I would prefer to gradually change the fluid... Drain it out, put new in. Repeat a couple days later, and do this for a few weeks.

Haven't people had issues with flushing these trannys with such high mileage?

At any rate, it's good that you're not having issues. Just continue to drive it the way you do, I assume you go pretty easy on it.

maybe I'll change mine gradually like that, I've flushed mine recently, and it seemed like it worked well for about a week, now it's right back to sticky shifting

I was thinking along similar lines. Thanks for confirming my hunch. Now the question is, which ATF to use? I have read folks say that the Nissan OEM ATF from the dealership is the safest as that's what currently is there in my tranny. Can I substitute any other Dex III ATF instead?

Well, I used to drive this hard earlier. But I have mellowed down a bit these days, now that I have a 2K Max :-)

I strongly suggest you get oem trans fluid to go back in the tranny[nissanmatic]

I did a a gradual flush along with adding a tranny cooler which in my opinion should be mandatory for any automatic.

Btw I added "cheaper" fluid first and ended with amsoil.

Yup,start with the cheap dextron III for the flushing, then end up the with good stuff in the end..

The nissanmatic fluid/amsoil is just too expensive to be using it for the flushing stages...

It would also be a good idea to replace the filter screen too...
