I was wondering if anyone would like to upgrade the final gear in the auto from stock 3.62 to a 4.11? This would reduce speed in each gear by 12%. Also instead of your rpms being at 2000 at 60mph, they would be around 2300rpm at 60mph. Keep in mind that the 5spds are at 2500rpm at 60mph in 5th gear. So you would get better highway mpg than a 5spd and quicker acceleration over a stock auto. Their is a guy in my neighborhood that just put 4.30s in his cobra. When I rode in it at first sure it was fast but, you had to rev it above 3000 to really feel it pull. Now his car freakin' rocks, he can spin the tires just by mashing it. Plus his hole shot is hell of alot stronger. I figure this mod on a stock auto max should reduce ET around 2-4 tenths. Considering how tall stock gears are this mod followed by a TC and VB would beat a 5spd. Just like how the stang and F-body auto's are beating manuals with shift kits and TC's.

Can you tell me more info about how do u change the final gear ratio ??? I'm not much a mechanic and kinda confused ....... do u have to change the tansmission gear or something ????

It sounds like a very interesting mod for auto owners....

Basically in order to bolt in a (prototype) 4.11 gear you would have to remove the tranny and get to the differential. The only problem is that your paying around the same labor as you would toget a tranny rebuild. Assuming the 4.11 gear costs the same as the 200R does from NISMO it would cost around $400 for the final gear. Then probably another $500-900 to install it. Remember we have transaxles, not a separate tranny and rear end like the RWD cars.

Do you have to remove the tranny to get to the diff? This is a lot easier for the RWD folks

Yes you have to remove the tranny and take it apart to get access to the diff. I changed my gear ratio by getting a 91 se-r lol

Look up on the Quaife installation shortcut. There is an post in the How Tos or FAQs. I don't think this would allow you to get to your final drive but it would get the diff out. That may only be manuals too so IDK.

Pulling the VLSD out of Briguymax's brother's 2001 AE trans only took us about 20 minutes after we had the trans out of the car. Get some snap ring pliers is all I can say, good ones. Would have taken about 5 minutes if we'd had good snap ring pliers.
