AC controls stuck on heat!!!

ok last week I was trying to turn on the heat for my car. it seemed very hard for me to turn it over to heat so I put it on cool and tried to put it back on heat and this time it wouldnt go on heat at all. the **** stops right on the point where the heat starts. well now today the **** is stuck right in the middle of heat and AC. it feels like its hitting something, it just wont move back and forth. I tried so hard to get it over to AC that I broke that **** off the thing! does anyone know what could be going on? has this happened to anyone before? I have to get this fixed its almost august and I dont have any AC!!

btw its not auto climate control.

Thanks for your help!

You need to hit up the local junkyard for another heater control unit..

The slide control failure is pretty common problem on the maxima..There is a little plastic track/rail the slider rides on,after a years of sliding back-n-forth,it wears out the plastic slide rail causing the binding...

yup, be careful or you'll break off the **** like the numb nuts who owned my max before me did.

I was less than thrilled about replacing it.

lol its to late, I already broke it off. well at least I know thats all it is. I was worried I was going to have to tear the dash apart to get to some little part and it was going to take me forever.

so all I need is that box that has the controls for the heat and A/C right. anything else that I would need?

all you need is the control head and some willingness to tear apart 1/3 of the dash to replace it.
it was not fun.

Thanks Stargate, that should help move me along. Mine is manual A/C not auto. I've replaced the radio and I think that procedure might get me in the neighborhood. Having the problem of Hot/Cold lever being stuck. Going to dig in and then order parts, hopefully. Mechanic wants around $450 to fix it. Ha.

The control unit may be done, but I was amazed at how much a little in the back grease solved a difficult temp slider. You'll have to remove the unit, then you'll see the moving parts in the back and the two surfaces it rides against. Very light grease- I think I used a spray grease or something. Then work it back and forth for a while and see if it doesn't loosen up.

The two of them I did work fine years later. Be careful unhooking stuff.
