I was cleaning out my car today then went on a short trip...noticed the seat back wouldnt move when i hit the switch. (3rd time the drive power seat has broken, now im out of warrenty) When I got to a rest stop I took a look at the seat, and the wire that goes from the back of the seat and winds down to the bottom has been wrapped around behind the track since I took it in for the recall. So I thought maybe the wire was worn or something so I played with it and it ended up comiing right out in my hands and now the wire is hanging, it just unplugged somehow. They put this thing in wrong when they did the service, but Id like to just plug it back in but I cant see where it goes. ANyone plug this in before? I doubt it but thought Id ask anyway, my driver seat has now broken at the lumbar, the bottom, now the back...but i suspect this is from shoddy recall work.

 

regardless it's a recall issue, so warranty shouldn't be an inssue.

 

did the wires came out of the clip?

if so, you can just bypass it by hardwiring it in with bud connectors, no biggie.

try and take the bolts off the seat and push it back so you can see under it, just don't unplug any more wires under there cause the airbag light will come on..

thats if you don't wanna take it back to the dealer..

I already had the recall work done, but im going to monkey with it tonight and if I cant get it plugged back in they are going to fix it..Im pretty sure they ran the wire wrong when they did the work considering the wire was getting rubbed on the track.

 

that's what i meant. DO NOT go in there saying you "saw and tried this" but rather, after my recall this.... has happened.

if it's rubbing, that is exactly what the recall is intended to remedy.

 

Finally got to the dealer and explained the situation and they said they are going to fix it, I even walked into the shop area to tell the tech to his face exactly what I think happened because I didnt trust the service people at the desk to effectively relay the information. They of course need to order a part, I suspect its the plug because the plastic looked like something had broken when it came apart. Its going to be nice to recline more once again, and not have to have a nervous breakdown at the dealership to get something done. Id imagine if they claimed no responsibility this would cost several hundred easy.

 

When we are talking about a recall situation, don't be worried about 'dealer/Nissan responsibility'. Be polite, but be firm and insistent. NismoMax80 is telling you in a nice way that this is DEFINITELY Nissan's responsibility. And if the seat covered by the recall situation is still giving trouble a year from now, it is STILL Nissan's responsibility to repair it at no charge.

A Maxima is a beautiful and wonderful thing. It should bring pleasure to the owner; not angst.
