Looking to replace stock struts
Looking to replace stock struts
Struts are totally gone. If I ev en go over a small bump all I hear is squeak. So im looking to replace the stock ones with possibly coil overs? Or just replace them, get a nice pair from autozone or something. A 10 year old car and haven't replaced them yet? I think it's about time.
This is a pretty basic question. You'd probably be better off asking it in the 4th gen or I30/I35 forums.
Post there and PM me if you don't get any good responses. I've answered this kind of question many many times, so I'll lay it all out for you.

Just buy a set of Tokico Illuminas and you will have a real 5-position adjustable shock, where each setting is different, from soft to pretty stiff. I had them with Eibach springs for about 3 years before I changed to K-Sport coilovers last Nov. After about 9,000K (three tire rotations), one of the rear shocks has leaked oil. K-Sport will fix it under warranty for 1 year, but it is too much hassle for the type of driving I am doing right now, esp. through all of the construction in S. Florida. 100+ miles/day. I have heard many good things about Boss Chen coilovers, made by a fellow orger, Larrio, if that is the route you choose to go. Tokico has a lifetime warranty on their shocks as long as you don't lower too much. I am currently pulling the coilovers out and reverting to the Eibach/ Tokico setup. IMO this is a much less complicated, more comfortable setup, putting less stress on the car while still performing well. With the K-Sports, they were so stiff that everything in the car squeaked, and I can't imagine that it can be good for the longevity of the car.
Strut bearing is a little plastic ring that goes between the upper spring seat and the strut mounting insulator bracket.
In link it is right below the part that the #8 arrow is pointing at.
