Taillight leak

Well recently when it started raining here, i opened my trunk and to my surprise water leaked in from where my taillight is. I did not know why, when i looked in visually it looked like hte gasket was still intact. I also noticed my other 98 does the exact same thing. I tried searching but i couldnt find anything on it. Its also a fair amount of water. Has anyone else had this problem and corrected it?

There's a sticky/gooey black sealant between the taillight and the body that needs to be replaced or built up again to close that gap and prevent water from entering the trunk. Note that this seal is not visible unless you remove the taillight. There are just 4 nuts to remove in order to remove the taillight (then you have to pull like crazy because that goo holds the taillight housing in there pretty firmly).

I would pull the tail light, and then reset it using clear silicone sealent. Its used for tub enclosures and stuff, about 5-8$ for a big tube of it from home depot/lowe's
