Crisco grease on my headlamp wiring harness?

Yesterday I noticed my right headlight was out. When I went to go replace it, I noticed that there was a greasy/gooey, yellowish substance that looked alot like Crisco, inside the actual wiring harness where the bulbs prongs insert. I'm positive that this wasn't there the first time I replaced the bulbs, and now it is on both left and right wiring harnesses.

Nothing looks melted, so I tried to clean some of the gunk out, but its almost impossible to get at. I plugged the bulbs in, with the grease, and they are working for now. Anyone have any idea what the hell this stuff is?

Did someone else service the car? Could it be di-electric grease?

It's di-electric grease. It's to prevent the harness from moisture and corrosion. It's OK. I would re-apply some more if you happened to removed it.

didn't even think of that...do they normally apply that stuff during a routine oil change at Valvoline? Because it DEFINITELY wasn't there before.

I highly doubt it. It was probably there and you never knew about it. I am assuming you have the halogens (since you have a 2001), and I think they may have come from the factory like that. I had it mine when I got my car.
