For all those with coilovers: noise diagnosis please
For all those with coilovers: noise diagnosis please
just got ksports installed today, when I am not applying gas or brake and the car makes this sound when under 40 mph but greater than 18-19. (Mostly coming from the drivers side front wheel but I dont know if thats because I am in the drivers seat) It sounds like zip ties zipping and sometimes when I apply a little bit of gas the sound goes away and I can feel a slight thump in the gas pedal. Can anyone tell me what this is? is it just the clicking sound that everyone is talking about or do I have a real problem...? thanks for any input
i have apperantly one of the few sets of coilovers out there that dont make any sounds esp for a little swuish over big bumps.
my best guess would be either u dont have all the bolts tightend to the right amount or the pillowball mounts/camber adjustment slider things are loose. only other thing i could think of is that ur not preloaded properly but id think ud notice that way before ud even finish installing. or maybe it possible during the insatll soemthing else got bumped. brakes, axels, outer tie rods, recheck everyhting in or around ur suspension9 i know thats alot, but hey thus is the life of working on cars.
thats my $.02

D2 and Ksport are the same company and a while back they had a few bad batchs that were filled with the wrong gas. Talk to the company you bought them from about getting new struts ( the insert only) my buddy just went thorough this and the gave him 4 new struts and the ride now couldn't be quieter. Check that everything is tight first before calling though
I had a problem exactly like that a few months ago, and it definitely wasn't the coilovers.
First there was just the thump whenever I got on or off the gas, which got worse and worse over a few weeks. Then I started getting this weird metallic grinding/scraping noises under no throttle, which eventually started happening under part throttle as well, and after a few days the only time I didn't get it was under heavy throttle.
Check your driver's side axle, just to be sure. But in my case, it was the transmission. If the axle checks out, drain and refill your gear oil, drive (carefully) for a few days, and then drain it again and check it. If it has already started to get cloudy by that point, your transmission needs service.
BTW, don't worry... The coilovers didn't blow up your transmission. If the problem is in fact in your transmission, then based on your description, it's advanced enough that it had to have started way before you put your coilovers in. It's just that since you're lowered, your axles sit at a different angle and that's revealing the fault to you sooner.
But if it gets to the point that it's worsening by the day, check it and solve it QUICKLY. If it does turn out to be your transmission, it could grenade on you if it gets bad enough.
And for the record, D2 and Ksport are NOT the same company. Some of the PARTS for their kits are made in shared manufacturing facilities, as with all coilover manufacturers, but the companies are separate and the designs are different. Only the upper mounts are the same (except for the color). The shocks are COMPLETELY different between the two.
