I know this mod is slightly common, but I thought I would throw this thread in for searching reference. A certain inclusive page.

Autozone now sells ES bushings at a very competitive price, $19.99. I was surprised to see them sell them, but it seemed they only stock the bushings for the aftermarket sway-bar. I had to order the bushings, but it only took 2 days to come in.



Install was really simple. This of course, after the weekend before I pulled my heat-seized hub rings off the front wheels with much hammering.

Reaction.

The Max is very straight through turns. Well-balanced and handles true. A definte upgrade I would recommend. For the price, you cannot beat it. Plus, the fact you can get it locally is great.

I want some. When I had mine replaced under warranty the car felt so tight and responsive. The OEM are terrible and are the cause of front end noise most max owner have dealt with.

 

sweet, so is this part of Autozone's new marketing thing where they are stocking more aftermarket parts? how did you find out Autozone had them?

 

Not sure about the marketing bit, but I jst saw them while I was in there one time. The stock end-link bushings as well.

 

Well, I didn't provide the how-to, that was Polo, it is more of a reference. The job is pretty easy to figure out on your own.

Excellent writeup! With really good corresponding pics! Do the 14mm bolts need to be torqued? And if so to what spec?

 

i'll be installing these along with control arm bushings and subframe bushings all from ES in the next couple weeks. I ordered the bushings, but ES said they have to custom make them and I will get them within 2 weeks. This will help with at least one install.

Can you give me some perspective on where those pics were taken from? I've having a hard time placing the pictures. Thanks!

Yesterday i went to autozone and order mine but i used your part number to order them and then i remember noticing that you have a SE which I am not sure if they fit my GXE so i took a second trip and order a different set for a GXE/GLE .
One i will return when it gets there i just want it to see the difference and make sure that i was getting the right one.
Will The SE bushings fit the gxe?
Anyone wants to collaborate.

My '02 6sp has developed noises from the front end

Since I installed Stage 2 LTB about a year ago, I thought perhaps the transverse link bushings are shut (althought I followed Matt Blehm' instructions to the letter). I lifted the car but could not see a fault with thouse bushings.
So, after reading this post I started thinking - perhaps these swat bar bushings went bad, not the transverse link?
Could you guys tell if:
- is there a way to verify if sway bar bushings are shut?
- are we refering to the stock sway bar?
- what are the symptoms to look for? Currently the car makes clicking noises when turning, and not to tracking well - meaning a constant steering input changes are required to keep it straight.
- what is the Autozone part(s) numbers or perhaps other vendor sells them?

sway bar bushings Part ## 75125R

 

last i remember, the se has a thicker sway bar by 1mm so the bushing would be too big for your sway bar.

it is not bushings, it's the sway bar links that go bad...

 

Correct but they are bushings. You can call the end links also, but when you look up the part its' called end link bushings....

 

Alright everyone, pics are back up. Sorry, was in Maine for the last week and had to shut down the web.

The instructions that came with the bushings say to torque to spec. I meant to check the spec before I removed them, but did not. I just made mine good and tight, but didn't over-do it.


Most pics were taken from the wheel, except for the one from the top of the engine bay.


The size issue has been answered. 23mm only for SE.
I haven't driven the car enough to notice any decrease in front end noise.I can tell it takes corners much flatter. If you look at Polo's write-up, you will see his bushings are much more worn. You can see the rubber doesn't touch the sway bar all around.

 

The manual specifies torques as 37-43 ft-lb.

no. as per my writeup, you only need to remove the wheel.
