My 03 with 35000 6spd max had tranny grinding into the third gear. So i went to the dealership and they swaped it by powertrain warranty. The sinchroniser went bad. They told me they changed the transmission assembly. When i asked they told me it included a new clutch. How can i find out if that is true or not. They did not seem too confident in answering that question. By the way the clutch does not feel different but i would not expect it to. Thank you for your replies.

Make sure to at least keep whatever paperwork they give you about getting the clutch changed on what date, though they can always claim that you were too hard on the car, which is why the clutch failed earlier than it should, withstanding that they did replace the clutch.

 

pull the starter and take a peak around


realize you can't see ish, pull the tranny and take a look around

 

So...the dealer doesn't know if they replaced the clutch? Do they know if they actually replaced the transmission?

 

find the build date of your car, write it on the flex plate/tranny/any other part


or find some other way to mark parts that won't raise suspicion

If they changed the clutch you'd know. A brand new clutch engages very quickly and you'd feel the difference

 

they probably wouldnt have changed the clutch under warranty since its a "wear item"

 

You would definately feel a new clutch. IF it feels the same minus the grinding in third then you have old clutch. Keeping the old paper work is a great idea. I think it you did enough coaxing and made a case. You could argue you way to get a new clutch under powertrain. I did with my old max .

why would they change the clutch in the first place.. ur warranty was for transmission only
there's nothing wrong with your clutch
would the dealer fork at the extra dough for you?
when they order tranny's, the clutch is not bolted onto it so you should not get it

 

I took the car to woodfield nissan. what they told me is that "transmission assembly" includes a clutch, and just the "transmission" does not.

but generally you will notice some kind of difference.

harder/softer pedal, where it engages, how much it bites, etc.

 

I had a tranny replaced on my 91 jetta before and the tranny was under warranty. They called me and asked if I wanted them to replace the clutch and all I'd have to pay was the cost of the clutch parts. Since they were pulling the tranny they claimed they wouldnt charge me extra labor for the clutch. Bottom line they will not usually replace the clutch under warranty!!!!!!!!!!

 

When they replaced my trans back in 02 they put a key value or whatever the cheap clutch is in as a replacement.
