Does anyone have any experience with warranty coverage for KYB struts?

Does anyone have any experience with warranty coverage for KYB struts? I am about to mount a set on my Spec, and though they have a lifetime warranty, and though they claim that they will cover them if they blow (as long as my drop is within their specs- and it is), I am not convinced that the warranty coverage will go as smoothly as advertised.

I am the original purchaser and I have receipts from an authorized retailer, but the retailer was mail-order. KYB SAYS that I can just return them for an on-the-spot replacement at any authorized KYB retailer.

Does anyone have any experience, positive or negative, with the KYB return/warranty policy?

For what its worth I just ordered a set from the group deal, when I was placing the order I questioned him about the warranty. He replied "as long as the drop is within the specs which I believe is 1 1/2"s, just send it back to us and we'll send you a replacement"

I recently had a set of rear KYBs replaced under warranty. You just need to find a shop that regularly sells the brand, if you purchase through them you'll be fully covered most likely. I had to try to save money, and bought online for the lowest price. The shocks failed (i'm not even lowered- they were just defective). I went to a shop and they covered the warranty for me, but i had to cover installation labor. So i ended up paying the same in the end anyway. I didnt want to try to approach the warranty issue on my own through the mail...

I bought online through a licensed dealer. KYB even confirmed it. I just don't want to have massive downtime if I have a failure. The KYB rep said that I should be able to pull off the part and take it to any authorized dealer (with my original receipt) and any KYB retailer can swap it out, OR I can buy a new one, install it (and remove the old one) then return the defective one. As long as I have all of my receipts, they SAY I am fine. I was just trying to see if anyone had actually gone through it.

It sounds like (if I have a problem) I will be covered with minimal downtime, especially sine I will be doing the install/removal myself.

TomV, did you have to show your receipt to get the warranty? Does it mean that for us who can't provide receipt, we're doomed?

Call KYB and tell them to charge you a "core" so you don't have any downtime and you get your money back when you return the old struts.

Thanks for the help, guys. KYB has pledged that it is an easy process, and they think that the struts will hold up well with my drop, but I cannot be too careful.
