Opinions ASAP please *Clutch/Flywheel*

I am currently going to get a clutch/flywheel combo for my 96 maxima SE. I am debating whether to get the Fidanza Flywheel with the stage 1 spec clutch or the stage 1 clutchmaster clutch. I do drive my car hard on a daily basis but I do not race on a track or anything like that. I basically just want something to compliment my B&M shortshifter along w/ my Intake, ypipe, HFcat and sp2 hook up. Please let me know what you think. I plan on ordering within the next 3 days... Thanks

I'd probably just get a 5th gen clutch and a Fidanza. There really isn't a need for anything stronger, unless you powershift out the **** at every stoplight and regularly slip launch from 4k.

Do you know of an exact part number. I heard that, if you get the wrong one, you are screwed. I want to put something in it that, when someone comes to buy it, says WOW, this guy really put some good stuff in his car...

I've got a Spec stage 1 and flywheel and I am extremely satisfied, especially with the flywheel. I think they mate well. Better than that is that I have piece of mind because I can boost and not change the clutch.

I've read post were people change out the clutch of 5th when boosting.

Spec's stage 1 is rated at 340-360 fwtq. There you have it.

OEM Nissan 5th gen clutch disc, pressure plate, release bearing.
Fidanza flywheel.

No more questions.

It doesn't matter what mods you have or how you drive: As long as your engine is a naturally aspirated, non-nitrous 3.0, the 5th gen clutch WILL hold it, especiallly with a Fidanza flywheel. It's not worth having the stiffer pedal, grainier operation, higher possibility for chatter, and potentially shorter life of ANY aftermarket clutch kit.

Of course it is. SPEC clutches apparently get their holding power more from soft friction material rather than from high clamping force.

Let us know how you're doing in 15k miles.

Dont mean to hijack the thread but

Im going to change my clutch out this weekend. it has actually pretty new flywheel. 5th gen clutch + 4th gen flywheel will fit ok right?
What else do I need besides pressure plate, clutch cover thing and throwout bearing?

Cheers

Yes, it will fit.

Yes, those are all the parts you need.

BTW, "clutch cover thing" = clutch cover a.k.a. pressure plate.

Since were on topic, i got a noob question. Does the 5th gen clutch feel any different, I just Hate the fact that i have to push my clutch pedal ALL the way in. Feels like im going cross country just pushing the damn thing. I also am in a need of a new clutch. But i hear that lightened flywheels could blow the tranny. Ofcourse i know that about my supra wich is boosting, is it the same in n/a I really dont want to be replacing any tranny parts anytime soon or in the future.

So right now i want to go with the fidanza flywheel, and i guess 5th gen clutch. Anyone can give me a link to where i can buy these, i also need a new PP im assuming and the throwout bearing. Would it be easier to just buy a 5th gen aftermarket kit? Or a 4th gen aftermarket kit? Or just go with 5th gen OEM. If i go OEM where can i piece all the parts together. Also how much is all of this going to cost.

Im sorry for all the questions, but im a noob when it comes to my max, for now.

This is a function of how you adjust the clutch pedal, not which clutch you have.

How the heck do lightened flywheels blow trannies?

Suffice it to say, I think you can be pretty damn sure that's not going to happen on your Max.

There might still be a group deal on Fidanza flywheels. As for which clutch you need... If you don't have lots of nitrous, FI, and/or a 3.5 swap with mods, get the 5th gen OEM clutch kit (disc, PP, throwout bearing). Send a PM to DAVEB for pricing -- he works at a Nissan dealership and can get some of the best prices for a lot of OEM parts. He's sold this setup to plenty of 4th genners, so he knows what to do. You should also get a stainless steel clutch line from Techna-Fit (http://www.techna-fit.com/) while you're at it.

All told, plan on $250 shipped, max.

Seriously, you can't go wrong with a 5th gen clutch kit and Fidanza flywheel. Its such a good street setup and it grabs very well. Even compared to Exedy Stage 1, the pedal feel is so much lighter and forgiving. I'm so glad i did it..

5th gen clutch with stock flywheel (I'm cheap what can I say). Best price I found was EverythingNissan.com, cheaper than Jerry Rome. Everything plus rear main seal, pilot bushing, etc for $280 I think. That was a few months ago.

I love my 5th gen clutch, smooth and a bit tighter than stock. When it was new, it engaged right off the floor, but after 1000 miles or so it feels very much like the stock 4th gen.
