Hayden transmission cooler

Ever since I got my 95 GLE, i have noticed that car runs and shifts lot better in cooler weather. like early morning or late night.

And after about 20 mins of driving shifting become really rough.

I drive 45mins one side in stop & go bay area cloggedways, One solution I am thinking of is to get Hayden transmission cooler.

Has anyone installed one of those and if so which one, hayden has two models ultra cool and Rapid cool and among them lot of sizes.

i installed one. I think mine is a ultra cool 401 modle. Small size. I noticed no difference after i m installed mine, but i can say that my tranny performs better when its warmed up.

Have you checked your fluid's conidtion?

I had a Hayden 404 and the initial startup was horrible since the fluid was cold and during winters it as definetly more horrible and it would take a good 5 min for the tranny to shift correctly.

Since then I have removed it and happy that the initial tranny banging into gear are greatly reduced since the fluid warms up real fast. On that note during hot summers the car is very sloppy since trannies (not just Nissan) shift funny when the fluid is real hot with limited cooling via the radiator.

I have one, the 405 model. Ive never really noticed a change in the transmission because of it. Maybe a slight difference in the winter, but not much.

A cooler won't help your situation.I have owned a hayden and it was a good cooler other then when it was cold out. I have since switched to a B&M which has a bypass for cold weather.

I've got the 403 and it's been nice in the Texas heat, although this will be my first winter with it, hopefully it won't have a significantly negative effect.

B&M is the best one out there...u will pay a lil more but if u live in cold climate weather its a must

Do you have any recommendation on what could be the problem with funky shifting!!. I can't seem to think of any cheap way to improve shifting

Whats your mileage at? I would first look at your trans fluid. It is most likely bad.

I would say a tranny cooler is more for performance-oriented purposes. Daily driving you won't notice a thing (although I've touched mine after driving for a half an hour this summer and it was practically cold). However, for anyone that takes their auto to the track it is definitely a good idea to get one because your tranny will feel/perform like crap once it gets heated up beyond it's normal temp.

Get a cooler and try using Auto-Rx in your tranny (google the stuff up) i have it in my 98 with 93k on it and its shifting much better, and im only 400 miles into it (out of 1000, at which point i will flush it)

No, because there is no external cooler or lines for it as-is. You'd have to tap the tranny and that could get bad. Also, it needs no cooling. Heat doesn't really hurt manual trannies like it does automatics.

Depends what kind of driving it was. I was referring to a short trip to a buddy's house that lives 30 min. away, mostly highway driving. If you're driving spirited or racing or something, it'll get hotter. Although a decent bit of my 30 minutes was also stop-and-go

Car has 106K miles and fluid was changed about 20K miles back. Fuild is nice and pink and no burnt smell.
I have added 1/2 bottle of seafoam trans tune about, I am planning to change fluid soonFluid.

Price difference in hayden and B&M coolars is big. In bay area we dont hit very low temperatures so I am gonna go with hayden .

Yeah, I have/had a Hayden 404 on my 1988 max. It was just recently sold. Anyway. It served great purpose. The cars tranny has definately kept up in good condition because of it. I tell everyone that if that tranny cooler wasnt on there I wouldve bought a new tranny not by choice in the 7 years I owned it and you see where I live, Central Texas. Nothing but heat. It did wonders for that car though. I wasnt a speed racer either, just every day driving to some minimal spirited driving once in a blue moon but she kept going and still is. I have a B&M for my 95 but I havent installed it yet. I plan to sometime this week though.

dubbya you have pics. of where you have it mounted? I figure it would go between the grille and the radiator but pictures speak for themselves.

My engine bay is definitely not clean. That picture somehow made it LOOK clean It needs a good degreasing and spray-off. It isn't as bad as most people's though, I admit, which surprises me being that I live in PA...
