the 450/350 seem way too soft to be competitive...but they were good for starter spring rates--just to get used to them....

it's funny, when I first got them over my eibach pro-kit springs, I was more than happy with how stiff it was...now, they just seem soft...and the reason I am proposing a symmetrical setup is for more rotation...

What brand springs are you using and what lengths? (just curious)

For comparison, default rate, front/rear, approximate:
Boss Chen: 391/446
JIC: 506/377
Tein: 391/335
Ksport: 502/335
D2: 502/391

I'd go with 550f/450r or 500f/450r

I went with the 450/450 setup. If your looking for rotation, I would step up the rear rate before changing the fronts.

well I feel that my front is too soft now, so I want to step up that as well....

I am leaning towards the 550/550 the more I think about it...10kg all around.

if my max wasn't my everyday street driver and a dedicated track car, I would consider something like 12kg/14kg...

Try calling JIC and getting their take on spring rates. They announced their new FLT-A2 VIP struts for the Max and the new rear springs are stiffer than the original A2's. I respect their R&D and sent them an e-mail a few weeks back but heard nothing.

Also if you've got some cash for a deposit I'm willing to loan you my revalved Progress springs to test out as they're off the car right now. The feel completely different from the stock Progress units and feel like somebody did change spring rates.

I mean't the struts to tryout with your existing springs but I just realized you're in LA already. You might just want to go over to Progress and talk with Ed in person about your needs. For only a couple hundred he could revalve em all easy. Yes, they were matched with 700f, 450r springs.

right, so using yours with my current 450f/350r wouldn't give me an idea of how they would perform with your custom valving since they are setup for much stiffer springs...so I would think in my case they would be overdamped...

probably next season I will have it all done at once and go see Ed in person so we can work out something that would fit what I'm looking for...

correction for the b.c. spring rates:
450F, 335R
The shocks are valved for that spring rate also.

Shouldn't your spring rate choice depend on how the car is reacting currently on the auto-x?

yes it should, and that's what I am basing it on...our cars never have enough rotation--especially for autoX...going 550f/550r with custom valving should cure my dilemma.

550f/550r should be good for auto-x but you will have to be careful on highway ramps. I got 450F/335R and it seems to be enough to rotate the car when going through high speed corners.
