OK so i have $550.00 to spend on a HU...
Help me pick one fellas. Long story short, I was going to get the IVA-W200 through a special program cus i work at an authorized dealer, but little did i know it ends on Sept. 15th, and i was like a day late.
My Alpine rep is going to try and pull some strings, but it doesnt look likely at all. If he can get it, ill go ahead and get one, but it probably wont happen.
On the other hand, time for HU shopping again, and my budget is above.
I was thinking the CD7000, but i've heard mixed reviews about it.. something like it was hard to use, wasn't worth the money, i thought i saw that someone had actually switched BACK to some other unit, not to mention i dont really like the huge @ss **** on the front.. some other finikey things that might bother me are like i heard that when you put a cd in, it doesnt flip back up by itself? is this true? If so that kinda blows..
But then again, i love the way the thing looks all lit up (ive really only seen pictures), and im sure it has craploads of SQ.. im gonna go play with one at circuit city either tonight or tomarrow or Friday night, hopefully they have it on the display board...
Any other suggestions on HU's??? ill even consider a lesser expensive unit + some other goodies like more deadner or anything. help me out!
edit: i also have some more moola saved up cus i was planning on getting a 1000w PDX amp as well, however with current obvious circumstances, thats not happening either. so maybe a lesser unit and a damn good sub amp as well?

I have the CD7000 and am very happy with it. Yes the whole five way button thing insided the volume **** can be a little tricky to use, but once you get used to it it's ok. I still like it a whole lot better than the scrolling wheel on my CD8454, and 8455. Advancing to the next songs with that was a pain. After putting in a CD the unit will not flip back by itself, this was the same with the 8454, and 8455. I guess they do it that way in case you want to also insert or eject a memory stick at the same time. This use to bother me, but not any more. I have gone to other HU's in the last few years. They include Alpine (CDA-9835) and Pioneer (DEH-P8600MP). I believe the Alpine was the easiest to use. I still think that once you get used to it, the CD7000 is easier to use than my last 2 Eclipse's, and easier than the Pioneer unit.
SQ and tuning wise it is a very nice unit. I do not see me getting anything else for a while.

thanks a lot for your input, im glad you pointed out that they dont flip back up on the older units as well, cus i was considering them too...
where'd you pick yours up? the Don?

I am a Pioneer fan, and am going to probably upgrade from a Premier 860mp to a 880PRS, IMO that is a good unit to look into as well, but the CD7000 is VERY VERY nice. I don't find my 860mp hard to use at all, and the T/A and Auto-EQ work VERY well for me.

I looked for it here in town, but the stores I looked at did not have it at the time. I ended up getting it from Crutchfield with a very nice little discount

Thats not half the deck the CD7k is. I wouldnt run anything from Alpine in the past couple years if You paid Me to do so.
