Im having a 3.5 put in a 4th gen which is just about complete ... but as some of you have seen, theres a video posted by tavarish in which the engine has some serious noises going on idle ... I dont think its getting the proper amount of oil and and fuel in the engine..Im just curious to what people are using as their fuel pump regulator and what your using for the fuel system to work properly and efficiently ? thanks

I think you mean fuel pressure regulator. Most got theirs from ebay.

T-off a line into the regulator

What is the car doing to make you think its starved for oil?

My fuel setup is exactly the same as the good ol'4th gen's. Return type still there. I've done the swap with pathfinder heads which allows me to keep the manifolds and fuel system. Still using sidefeed injectors. No fuel pump nor fuel regulator replacements, yet. Walbro will go in soon, though.

Car runs lean and powerful at partial throttle, it gets pig rich upon 40%+ throttle. About to adjust all that with EU.

So what do we do if we want / need to keep the return style fuel setup?

Why would you want to keep the return style? Just convert it to returnless.

Use pathfinder heads, use 4th gen lower manifold, voila, you can keep everything 4th gen in terms of fuel setup.

I would much rather use the 3.5 manifold, and how do the pathy heads flow in comparison to the 03 max heads?

How would I do that? Just cap off the return line?

I have my reasoning, and I too would like to retain the VQ35 Heads and IM. I guess if I wanted to do this then I would just keep it setup like the 4th gen setup?

Here is a returnless system. With this returnless system, fuel STILL returns to the tank, just not via the fuel rail. This is a different type of setup that are in the 5.5 gens.

Courtesy of Biggs_02 for the pic.

With that said, I had a normal return setup on mine, runs fine with no problems.

When you say normal are you reffering to the orginal 4th gen fuel setup?

Yeah,

My setup was DE-K injectors, 3.5 rail, DE-K FPR on the end of the rail, and the SX7R fuel rail fitting on the other side of the rail.

*is where it leaves the tank

stock 4th gen, return:
pump >* filter > rail > FPR> return > tank

stock VQ35, returnless:
pump > fitler > FPR V>* rail
return within tank

Semi returnless/hybrid:
pump >* filter > FPR V> rail
return > tank

The semi returnless is the best option IMO since it allows for rising rate pressure (good for boosting, easy access to the filter, and cooler temps of returnless.
