i have a 2001 GLE maxima...i just got all clear tail lights for the 5.5 gen, but the bulbs dont seem to fit in the housing....my 1157 bulbs WILL NOT GO in. can some one please help me on this do i need to get the actual adapter from the 2003 model tail lights??

they take 7440 n 7443 bulbs..which is hard to find at a Pepboys or Autozone that are LEDS or regular colored. Best bet is to go to Nissan parts and get the harness for 02-03 and go on Ebay and buy the LEDS. tellin ya, cuz it worked for me!!!

 

yeah.. i did the same thing..the only bulbs that dont go in are your turn signals right????? ( because my reverse light and my brake light went in fine) >> i ghetto rigged mine,.. shoved some bulbs that were smaller in.. and a little duct tabe and hot glue and bam.. it works fine btw....... that was the short fix, but i never got around to doing it right,...

im pretty sure you can just buy the adapter piece somewhere and just splice it and hardwire it in.. its only a + and - .. go to a junk yard and cut one off maybe? cuz you dont want to get ripped off at the stealership for a whole new wire harness

 

YES MY large *** 1157 turn signsl will NOT GO IN AT ALL

I WAS HOPING TO JUST BUY the adapters from ebay...but i checked ebay and cant really come up with anything

and like you said going to the stealership will mean ill have to give up an arm and two legs for the damn harnesses...... i was thinkin of checkin some local junk yards.....

but see the thin is.....my whole parking light harness doesnt seem to fit in...even without the 1157 bulbs....i didnt really try to force it in....i was more pissed at the fact that i need to get new bulbs and A HARNESS

i also purchased some red bulbs for the brake lights, and some extreme blue/white PIAA ALL REGULAR BULBS, NO LED's...for the turn signals...and the reverse lights i just left them as is

You need to have the wire harness part# 8 in the picture to correctly install 5.5 gen into 5 gen. Or you can go to auto parts store, buy the correct plug (if possible) and splice the new connector into your old harness.



I installed all red GXE tails from a 5th gen into my 5.5 gen, but made sure when I purchased them, they also came with the wire harness. Makes the install much easier.

 

so the one on that site is the correct one...because the wire harness says its for the 5.5 Gen (02-03) maxima.....even though the illustration for bulb 5 looks similiar to an 1157 bulb? or is it just like a generic diagram

 

as stated, you need the wiring harness for the tailights. i had to do that when i put 00/01 tails on my 02.
daveb has them for about $30

 

i managed to call the stealership and found out that the wiring harness part number is 26551-5y700......and the dealership has them in stock....BUT! they want 30+ BUCKS PER HARNESS!!

i might just get em from that website

 

so u had to take off your 02-03 wiring harness and use the 00-01 wiring harness? and its plug and play?

 

Yes. If you have the 00-01 tails, you use the 00-01 harness, and if you have the 02-03 tails, you use the 02-03 harness. All this is regardless of if your car is a 00-01 or 02-03.

And, also to clear up and to answer all your questions of why the 1157 bulb will NOT fit is because the actual bulb number for the turn signal socket in the 2k-2k1 tailights is "PY21W". The base of this bulb is slightly different than the 1157. That's why the 1157 bulb doesn't work. And yes, when upgrading the 2k2-2k3 tails from the 2k-2k1's you must get the harness from from the 2k2-2k3 taillights.

 

ohh, ok i got it all in order now.....and i pickup my 2k3 harnesses from the "stealer"ship on tuesday right after the holiday

 

I must say that I am impressed. I was expecting to read a post about someone telling the noob, to "do a search" or "read the stickys" or something to that effect. also one LAST QUESTION...FOR the new 2k2-2k3 wiring harness im waiting for, WHICH BULBs DO I USE FOR THE DAMN turn/park lamp??? is it an 7443 or a 194 wedge? i havent gotten my harness yet by the way i cant find a decent illustration for it on the net
