My Maxima got its Mojo back

my maxi has been sluggish for a cuple months know pretty much over the summer but that is no more, i replaced all the 02 sensors and started running 93 octane, cleaned out the throttle body, used fuel injector cleaner and replaced my intake with a new one with an K&N filter, my old intake was just a MAF sensor nothing after it . So know when i step on the gas i feel that kick it pulls me back into the seat and it feels dam good.

What kind of intake do you use? I have a '99 GXE (auto), and just as a minor mod, I'd like to get a cold air intake system for it (if not for the minor performance increase, then for the nicer but non-ricey sound).

There is no performance gain ... if anything it hurts.

There is nothing better then the Stock air box. I had a cold air intake and within the first minute i felt the low end torgue loss, i have manual so thats probably why I felt such a difference. I put the stock back on 10min after installing the CAI.

That because you didnt have a CAI...CAI's most be cut through the fender wall. If the filter sits inside the engine bay then its a WAI. The injen or some other setups that go near the radiator are HAI. Most intakes people buy that say CAI (like Injen) are just HAI and suck a$$. The ebay CAI with longer pipe works good. It most be cut through the fender wall and filter goes in there. You need a k&n or S&B filter tho. It's not such a simple mod if you want the correct CAI but it will give gains. Besides that your stock box is the best. People just like putting intakes on the car cause it sounds better or they can say yeah I've got an intake on there. When in fact all it does is slow your car down...

So putting in a new intake, regardless, will do absolutely nothing for performance (and I take it "air box" is synonymous with "intake" - I'm relatively inexperienced with car mechanics/terminology)?

Stock air box with new paper filter = 120 MPH top speed
Injen Intake = 125 MPH top speed
All Stock otherwise.
Condidtions were the same and I do not condone speeding
How can you say the intake doesn't add power, it's just up higher in the rev range. It is all a matter of personal preference.

So that really worked 4 your maxima? Because I know my maxima has been kinda of sluggish and I read what you wrote and sounds like that'll help. How much is this talkin?

Of course that will help but only if it hasnt been cleaned in a long time. You're not going to get a big pop out of it. Just smoother basically.

Well the k&n will cost about $40. TB cleaner, about $4, 02 sensors are a lot, about $70 each. 93 octane depends where you are. Injector cleaner is basically doesnt do anything about power. But thats only about $4 per bottle.

If you want power back check your ks. See what the ohm is at. May be running low. Spark plugs could also help add some power back.

that kit is a waste of money. There is a thread in the how-to's about how to make the flip trunk.

Sam I have to disagree with you. I had my ks replaced about 2 wks ago and I finally got around to re-oiling my k&n filter and putting it back in. Took my son out to eat and on the way back I punched it. Max got up to 128 mph with no problem. Before the ks replacement I could only get it to 117. I drove this car in Germany so I know it has more, I won't be happy stateside until I hit 130+
btw my only engine mod if you can call it that is the air filter, plus I tried 91 octane gas

You must be one of those responsible kind of fathers. Way to take your kid to 128 'safely'

P.S. Top speed doesn't tell you ****. I can go way over whatever you stated, and my maxima is bone stock.

Damn man, you don't have to do him like that, that's just low. Father is just having fun with his son, give him a break. My dad's got an M5 and every once and a while, he let's ME take him out for a drive in it. Allows me to 'punch it' too. But I guess my dad's not responsible either, right. What an ***

I'm just sick of people coming in here and claiming that they can do 100+ MPH...and thinking they're king **** for it. Every time you do that, you are being completely irresponsible, and I'm not sure how old your son is, but you're risking his neck too. It'd be a shame to see him get hurt because of your stupidity.

Now go ahead and write something witty back...enlighten me.
